Is anyone having this problem. Last week I started phase 3 (soft solids). I threw up everything that I tried. The doctor's office put me back on liquids for 48 hours and was told to start mushy again. I am still vomiting. Is anyone having the same problem? I have to return to the doctor's office tomorrow. Any advice would help.

I have not had this problem . I am still on purees, but I do sympathize and hope things get better for you. I had problems with passing blood clots after surgery and no one else seems to have done that either.....so I know how it is when you are going thru something and no one else has experienced. Just try to be positive ....However, I do think I read in my book Weight Loss Surgery for Dummies that some people have difficulty transitioning and may have to go back to the previous stage.....I don't know if they specifically mentioned vomiting ......,but I think they said if you have this problem then the next time you start solids you should try to do it one food at a time and keep track of how different foods are tolerated in a food journal.....you may want to purchase the book or see if you can check it out at your local library.....it is very informative and has been a lifesaver for me (literally - when I was in the hospital they put diet ginger ale on my tray and I remembered from the book that I can't have stuff that is carbonated - they were giving me a liquids only tray for diabetics instead of one for gastric bypass patients ).....Anyway, I hope this helps some... Lisa, I had the same problem, my surgery was July 5th, I was able to eat ok after the surgery, then after a few weeks, every time I ate anything with consistency or too thick, I couldn't keep it down. It was like stuck and my chest hurt until I threw it all up and couldn't even keep down water for hours after that. Yesterday 7/07, I had an EGD (endoscopy) and the dr found a stricture and stretched it out with a balloon. The procedure wasn't bad, they don't put you out, just sedate you to where you don't remember anything. I am now on a clear liquid diet for 3 days. If the stricture gets too tight, they will have to go on surgically and do the repairs. Best thing to do is call your doctor. Good luck.

After 3 weeks out, 1 in 20 people have a stricture. If you can't keep anything down other than water, it sounds like you need to call your surgeon's office right away because it is probably a stricture (your stoma opening has gotten too small for food to pass). Dawn
