Newbie to July Board

I had my surgery on July 28 and have lost 22 pounds. I was on liquids the first week and now I am able to start soft foods. I am NOT hungry at all. I am using Chocolate Flavored Unjury mixed with SF Swiss Miss Hot Cocoa to get in some protein. I mix the unflavored with watered down Gatorade which works great. Most of the time I don't even feel like I had surgery. I am getting in well over a gallon of liquids a day and 60 grams of protein. I am not tired at all but I know some people don't get the worn out feeling until the third week. Has anyone started a weekly weigh in post on this board? I have read them on other monthly surgery boards. Also, do you post a "What Did You Eat Today" (WDYET) thread? I look forward to following everyones progress. I need to read through the board as I just checked it out tonight after a friend reminded me. Susan

Hi Deb, Thanks for the welcome! I can start on the following foods anytime now: Soups; Refried Beans; Mashed Potato; Cottage Cheese; Cream of Wheat; Yogurt; Applesauce; Banana; Tofu: Peanut Butter; and Mashed hard boiled eggs. I am going to start with some Applesauce today and mix in some of the unflavored Unjury with it. I do not like a lot of the foods on the list, so that is a problem. I have heard the pintos and cheese from Taco Bell are good and may try those if I go into town. (I live out in the sticks). I am SO afraid of getting food stuck or throwing up so I am taking things VERY slow. Susan

Ugh - I was trying to take things slow and now today it seems like everything is getting stuck and am throwing up... grrrrr. FYI - tofu doesn't have the protein bang that hardboiled eggs, cottege cheese and chicken has. i'm a fan of it but it is not the best source for protein in terms of ounces... as if you didn't know that already right?

Sorry to hear you are having a bad day. Have you tried Papaya Enzymes? They are supposed to work well if meat is stuck. I wouldn't eat Tofu under any cir****tances. I still haven't tried to eat any applesauce. I am going to make myself eat some soon though. I hope you feel better soon! Susan

Welcome! I have seen WDYET threads on other forums on this site, just not the July board.....of course a lot of us are new so that's probably why.....you could start it up...I'm game.....I was thinking about ordering some Unjury... does it have that kind of funny aftertaste that other protein drinks have? Can you truly NOT taste it? I have tried AES Adventage (Advantage?) and slim fast lo carb and don't really care for the aftertaste . I don't want to order the Unjury if I am going to have the same result as the others so let me know.....thanks! Monique D.

Thanks for the welcome Monique! I thought after I posted about the WDYET thread that it would probably be a good idea to start that in September when we are further out. I will be happy to start it up. As for the Unjury, I am drinking it right now mixed with watered down Gatorade. I put a scoop full in with the Gatorade and some ice and blended it with my Magic Bullet. I can't even taste anything but the fruit punch Gatorade. The Chocolate Unjury is really good mixed with the Swiss Miss SF Cocoa. It even tastes good cold. I have several friends that recommended Unjury and they had tried several other protein powders. I am going to sign up for the auto-ship program with Unjury because you get 15% off(I think that is what it is). I know everyone is different and our tastebuds change after surgery. You can order a sample pack and try it out before ordering a big can. I hope you have a good Sunday! Susan
