Is everybody struggling with getting water and protein in?

For some reason, it seems to be harder for me the past few days. Food just does not appeal to me, and when I do eat, I can't eat more than a bite or two or it will come back up. Fluids are easier but still are slow going. I think this is just a part of the healing process, but it is a bit frustrating Hope you are all doing well! Jezia

I agree with you. We have the same "birthday". I can drink water without problems; however, the protein is hard. I recently bought the Designer Whey strawberry flavored from GNC and it's been okay. It has 18 gms of protein per scoop/8 oz fluids. It's hard for me to eat as well. Just don't have an appetite and mostly I'm plain scared. But I do know that I'm not losing any weight. Maybe my body is in starvation mode because I'm not getting in enough calories. We got to hang in there!!!!!!!

So far I haven't had anything come back up, but I have had a few episodes with things getting stuck, and boy does it hurt! I don't think I'll ever have the nerve to try mashed potatoes again! I highly recommend Unjury protein powder, the chocolate is the very best. I have been making chocolate/banana smoothies every morning. www.unjury.com Also I love Nectar Roadside Lemonade, I add one packet of CL lemonade to go to it, and have it over ice it's wonderful! No problems getting protein in at all. SF pudding is good too, I add unflavored Unjury protein powder to it. Janet

I don't know what it is about protein shakes, but I just have a hard time drinking them. I swear it takes me more than 30 minutes to finish one. I bought the Isopure sample box from GNC and I know Isopure is not that bad compared to other shakes, but I still have a hard time. Even the Isopure clear protein drinks take forever for me to finish. I add CL to them, but I still have a hard time getting them down. I bought Nectar Lemon Tea and I am going to try it for the first time today and I hope it goes well! As far as food is concerned, I am finding, you really have to chew very very well and eat very very slow. It is a healing and learning process, and I know it will get better really soon. I am not having problems with the fluids, though. I can drink all day long!!!!!!! Hang on in there!!!! We are on our way to a much better quality of life!

It takes me an hour to get in one shake....but I do for the protien. My Dr. told me that we are in hibernation mode....not alot of fuel coming in so our bodies are sorta shutting down and conserving... once we intruduce more food (energy) we will pep up! I too somedays just dont feel like eating/drinking...but do the best you can and tomorrow will be a new day. Hugs

Seems like my taste buds are different then before surgery.....the protein shakes gag me. I am on diced protein now and because I don't have the appetite - I am trying to eat only to get some of the protein in. (yet not getting enought protein in) I do have the problem of knowing when my pouch is filled - so I get the terrible breast bone pains that feels like I'm having a heart attack and leaves me breathless for several minutes after I eat or forget to sip those drinks. I am having a horrible time with most protein shakes. Thank God my Unjury Chocolate came in 2 days ago, haha. I'm making shakes with a teaspoon or two of peanut butter. I also ordered vanilla sample packets, and am going to try pb w/the shake, too. It's a little extra protein. And it makes some of the bad protein palatable. I ordered a case of those proteca vials, since there is 25g in each vial, and I'd tried one already and liked it. Well, post op my tastes have changed, cause that stuff is enough to make me wanna hurl!

Hi Jezia, Before surgery I loved ice cold water and drank a ton of it. Now, water is kinda painful, it feels like my little pouch is cramping up - whether the water is cold or room temp. I'm not sure if I'm using this as an excuse to eat more popsicles or not???? SF Popsicles go down great and I have no cramping at all...weird huh? I have no interest in eating at all. The Unjury shakes are going down pretty well and it's touch and go with regular, pureed food (or food really, really chewed to death!). My Hubby made meatloaf the other night and it took all of 5 minutes for it to come right back up. Then I had a hamburger, all mushed up, the next night and that went down fine. There really seems to be no rhyme or reason for the way my body now responds to food. But I can say that yogurt, pudding and cheese seem to always be tolerated well. I just can't wait for the energy to come back!! Patience I know!!! Boy is this a journey!!! Take care, Sue

Jezia, I am having a hard time getting my protein in, food makes me gag to no end. Ice and ice cold water is my best friend right now. I am not suppossed to have nuts but I am able to get almonds down(protein) and I almost ate a whole sting cheese today...by myself! I am very limited to what I can & can't have. I did make a smoothie with high protein yogurt, 1% milk and lots of ice. I couldn't fini**** but it was good & had protein. I also had refried beans(something else I am not suppossed to have) but it had some protein in it & I guess a little is better than none right?! Good luck to you!

I've wrote this a ton of times now, but its so worth it. IDS Liquid Whey Protein, it's only 2.9oz and 25 grams of protein. Buildingbrawn.com hsa the best price for it. Its kinda sweet to drink, but its over before you know it!!! Amber
