Protein Supplements?
Hey Guys!! I don't know how I've missed this board but am I glad that I've found it and all of my fellow July family members. I had lap RNY on 7-11 and I'm doing ok...I guess. I lost 9 lbs pre-op. Since surgery, I've lost 18 which I don't feel real good about. I think the problem is that I'm not getting in enough calories. I saw my surgeon on 7-27 for a 2 wk postop appointment. At this point, I supposed to be on pureed, but it's not very appetizing. So, I asked permission to substitute some soft foods and he said ok but be careful and chew, chew, chew to a pureed consistency. I usually only eat "food" once a day. I'm getting approximately 30-40 oz. fluids a day. I had been getting 50-60 gms of protein a day but lately it's getting harder. I just can't seem to find a protein that I like. Whether it's the smell, the taste..... but I know it's essential to get the protein in. Please tell me what you guys are using, where you purchase it, and how you like it. I've come to far to turn around and I surely don't want to sabotage my tool. I look forward to hearing from everyone.

I really enjoy the grape ISOPURE but it is very hard to get all the liquid in. It comes in a 20 oz bottle, I believe, which contains 40 grams of protein. So to get it all in, I'd need 30 ozs of protein a day... pretty hard for me to do, but I LOVE the taste and since it's juice-like, it doesn't feel icky texture-wise. I hate the shakes, powder stuff. I'm going to try the protein vials next to see if I can get it in quick and over with. Good Luck, this is my greatest challenge!

ISOpure, Unjury and Nectar Roadside Lemonade are the proteins I love!
I make a smoothie every morning with the Unjury. I use either chocolate or unflavored and add fruit, milk and ice to it.
This morning I had a chocolate banana smoothie, here's my recipe -
1/2 cup skim milk
1 cup ice
1 scoop chocolate unjury protein powder (20 grams protein)
1 2inch chuck frozen banana
This makes a nice thick shake, and it's yummy!
I also use unflavored Unjury with a couple strawberries or blueberries and a banana chunk. One secret I learned was to bag up individual fruit in snack size bags and put it in the freezer as soon as you get home from buying it. Then when you need it, all you have to do is go to the freezer and pull out a bag.
You're doing great!!!! I really like the PRO BLEND 55 varieties, they don't taste like vitamins, and there are wonderful flavors, I got samples from www.vitalady.com, and it was the best money I'd ever spent! I really like the mocha cappuchino and the peanutbutter chocolate. Give those a try, I think you'll be pleased! Keep up the good work!!
I was sent home with a jug of Pro Complex APS Vanilla flavor.
Two scoops in 8 to 12 oz. of water = 55 grams of protein. No kidding.
It tastes fine and I don't mind drinking it every morning. I get half my protein in an 8 oz glass first thing in the day! Maybe you could try it? Today I drank one in the morning and one before my nightly walk. I has over 100 grams of protein and average 95-99 a day since my surgery last week!
I bought it at the GNC nearby.
I haven't seen anyone else use the protein supp that I am using. The GNC I go to does not have the Isopure, so they recommended the Simplify Smoothies 130 Cal, 4g carb, 20g protein per scoop. I love it. I bought 1 choc and 1 vanilla and they gave me one free. You can make with skim milk or water. I can't use milk right now, so I am using water. It's good. They say it's their best seller.
