First month experiences???
I had my surgery July 19th - lap rny. I was supposed to be on clear liquids for 2 weeks but was feeling so weak and well... just horrible... that I started full liquids after a week or so (cream of wheat, cream of chicken, applesauce, pudding). They're all doing very well. I'm having a really hard time getting protein in. It was making me sick so I tried Isopure which was much better, but it is a LOT of liquid to get all 60 g of protein. What are you all doing for protein?
I'm having a hard time getting liquids in. I'm NEVER hungry, go figure that! I do eat the 3 meals a day but it seems like more of a chore than anything, considering I don't like much of what I'm eating. I still have another 2 weeks before I'm supposed to try pureed or anything semi-solid. I always forget one or more of my vitamins. Everyday I go to bed thinking, "What did I do wrong and how can I do better tomorrow?" I have had a few really good days, even went to the movies the other day, but then have really bad days where I feel weak and have trouble after just a short walk. I am tired a lot and miss my pre-surgery energy. Does this go away?
Has anyone else experienced these difficulties? If so, what are your suggestions on how to deal with them or fix them?
Hey Crystal,
I definitely feel the difference when I don't get my protein. I don't know how much money you have, but I've definitely invested in the IDS Whey Protein Sups. They are liquid, only 2.9 oz and so easy to drink. They don't taste fabulous, but compared to drinking something that doesn't taste great but 16 oz of it, this is way better. I buy them off Buildingbrawn.com by the case. It's 28 bucks with shipping/tax. Profect has some as well, but never tried those. I can't believe your diet is like that. I don't eat a lot of harder foods, but I haven't pureed one thing yet. I would have a talk with your nutritionist and explain to them the things you hear about others eating and see why they are objecting to that. As far as themeds go, I keep my med box with me at all times, that way I don't forget, it happens. Especially with my calcium because I'm doing that liquid for the most part.
Hope that helps,
Amber
I had surgery on the 17th and today was my first day of eating soft/pureed foods. Of course I couldn't wait and started eating tiny bits this weekend. My DR requires a 2 week liquid diet before surgery and an additional 2 weeks liquid after surgery to give your body time to heal.
I'm having no problems getting my protein in, but I add it to everything! I really like the Unjury chocolate and unflavored. I've added the unflavored to soups and SF Chocolate pudding, both tasting just fine.
I've made up some of the recipes from the book "Before and After" and let me tell you they are really good! My entire family likes the egg custard, it's soft and goes down very well. Today I'm making some shrimp salad.
This morning I had a chocolate banana smoothie using 1 scoop Unjury chocolate, skim mil**** and 2 inch pieces of a frozen banana. It was wonderful!
I also drink the ISOpure drinks and Nectar's Roadside Lemonade (I add a CL to go Lemonade packet to this).
Hope that helps!
Janet
