2 weeks post op today!
Hi everyone-this is a good week- the last 2 weeks were kinda tough for me. I was a little unrealistic about how fast I would bounce back. My surgery took 5 hours because they found a tumor just below my stomach and it was the size of a big gumball. They said it is benign thank God, and they just removed it and resected the intestine. Then I had bleeding problems in the OR and needed 2 transfusions. Finally, once out of the OR my O2 sats kept dropping to the 70s because the NG tube was breaking the CPAP seal so they had to take it out, so I spent the night in ICU, though I don't remember it. I was in the hospital for 4 nights, and when I got home got 2 full days of terrible diarrhea from the Glucerna shake I had. I was miserable and couldn't reach my MD for a while. In desperation I asked the OH community for advice and they said to have some yogurt and presto chango, it worked like a miracle!
My parents came to my house and that was great- just to have the support. I hadn't told my mom that I was having the bypass - she thought it was the lap band, but it was the right thing to do. She would have been frantic. But they went home and I am now doing great, and have lost about 20 pounds. I have been out to the grocery store and walking and need to keep increasing the walking.
I really miss chewing and I'm craving cheese, so I tried the campbells fat free cream of brocolli and cheese soup- heaven. Also for anywone who loves their morning coffee, I found a product called 8 for 8 Pro cel coffee protein drink. It is columbian decaf with 8 grams of protein unsweetened and it is wonderful. It is new- Global health sells it- it is not on their web site but you can call them and order it.
On day 1, I was sorry I did it- but I was warned i would feel that way. But all is good now. I am putting the scale away because I have started to obsess about it. I hope you are all well and recovering nicely. Take care all, Judy
