My nut. stage 2 (for 2 weeks) RNY is 8 oz of protein drink 5 times a day and 56 oz of clear fluids (SF jello, sf popcycles, protein based broths, no calorie - no sugar - no carbonation - no caffine fluids.)

My surgery was 7/6. I was on an IV and NPO for five days due to esophogus swelling. My Dr. told me that after a few days on clears, I could start on stage two. I am tolerating creamy split pea soup, tomato soup and last night I tried some mashed, mashed baked potato. It stayed down very well and was very satisfying. I had some watermelon this morning, mashed with a fork and seedless, and that did well too. I was having a lot of nausea, but not with these new foods.

Hi everyone! I too had WLS on 7/6. I think I've been more daring than most - I had some vegetable soup - chewed the vegetables well - oatmeal (there's this kind that has 30g of protein per serving - i can only eat a little at a time but the protein makes it worthwhile) watered down o****y best friend and scrambled egg. oh and tofu. i have a friend who had it in March and she says the key is to get in as much protein as possible - it may help prevent hair loss. so i also drink my atkins shake every day and i spike my scrambled eggs and mashed potatoes with unflavored protein powder. before anyone thinks i'm pigging out i eat maybe two tbsp of each food other than the shake of course! best wishes! Deb It is unreal how much better i feel today than i did on Monday. i still am fatigued and achy but so much better.

Thanks for your reply, Deb. I'm wondeirng if it's the lack of protein or iron, or both, that is making me so lethargic? I am sleeping well during the night, but have no energy during the day. I can nap an hour or two after waking up and take a 3 hour nap during the day. I've been eating egg salad (1/2 c.) for breakfast and lunch and taking my Flintstone chewables twice a day. I need to get the rest of my vitamins and some protein shakes. I tried the Isopure Grape Ice and can't handle the taste of it. I pureed some spaghetti with meat sauce last night and also had 1/2 c. 1% milk. I need to remember I'm only a little over a week out and should be more patient. I'm just concerned about the lack of energy. Warm wishes, Lynette in CA

I sleep a lot too. You are lucky you seem to get more foods on your list. I had some pea soup earlier, and it tasted good. I get painfully full really quickly. I am just able to get in 1/4 cup, if I eat slowly. The protein supplement is my least favorite, but it makes me feel the best. I replace 1 meal with it.

Lynette- re: the lethargy and lack of energy - I totally feel weak and tired. we need to keep in mind that our caloric intake has been SHARPLY reduced and our bodies need to adjust. I know I'm eating about 500 calories a day now (between 400 and 550) and that's down A HUGE AMOUNT. i hear that the heat doesn't help and that the thing that will help us with the fatigue is fluids lots and lots of fluids. which is making me crazy because i feel like i'm sipping and sipping all the darn day and still i am only taking in 30-40 ounces. lastly, your body needs a lot of energy to heal. our surgery is REALLY major stuff and the body does heal well while we sleep. so we all need to be patient and to remember that so much has changed that we need to give our bodies (our poor tired bodies) time to recover and adjust. **of course i'm hardly a doctor so if you are really really worried - call your doctor. it might make you feel much much better! best, Deb

My lap RNY was on July 3rd. I am now on pureed foods with protein drinks in-between. I can have cooked chicken, turkey, fish, water packed tuna, tofu, egg whites, cottage cheese(yuck!), light yogurt, sugar free pudding, cream soups, some mashed vegetables. For breakfast I have 2 egg whites and a soy sausage ground up. I find that if I haven't pureed the foods long enough I make sure I chew, chew, chew til it feels like puree in my mouth! I haven't had any problems. I am supposed to only eat 1/4 to 1/2 cup of food per meal and I make sure I limit it to that. I really try to think about whether I am still hungry or not as I eat.I don't want to get to a 'full' feeling and get sick. Its a real learning experience since before I just ate and ate.

Some of those foods sound like stage 3. I am not supposed to eat eggs yet. I used to hate tuna, but now I am dying to be able to eat tunafish with light mayo and a couple of crackers!

OH MY GOD! i am so dying for tuna on crackers! My husband made himself a huge bowl of tuna to take to work and it is sitting in the fridge mocking me! i also can't wait to have fresh raw veggies too. why aren't you supposed to eat eggs yet? my dr. told me i could and a number of people recommended scrambled eggs as a good source of protein. i'm looking forward to a nice hard boiled egg to. Amazing what you start looking forward to - i think i want a hard boiled egg as much as i used to want pizza... crazy me! i also had - and i know this is weird - shrimp shumai. they're small, soft pasta with ground shrimp inside. 4 of them were two ounces and i think 4 grams of protein - which is the same as cottage cheese. and they were really really tasty. i hope everyone is feeling well - i feel better day by day!
