Had surgery & back to tell about it
Hey All you July Babies,
I had my surgery on July 3rd and it wasn't as bad as I had thought it would be. I got good drugs that took the edge off the pain. The nursing staff at St. Mary's were wonderful to me. I did everything I was supposed to do including wallking & walking and more walking (pushing my IV/pain meds pole). My wonderful husband was there with me thoughout the whole ordeal and I did just fine. My esphagus did swell and that's the only complication I had. The swelling went down and I'm fine now. It was just a little tricky trying to get the upper GI done when nothing would go down. This caused me to stay in the hospital a day longer so I didn't get sprung until Friday. It was quite a week.
This past week at home has been nice. I am doing my liquid diet, getting in my protein, and water. So far I have lost 22 lbs. Not bad huh? LOL I am pretty excited over my weight loss. I dieted for 6 months prior to surgery and only lost 9 lbs so 23 is a big deal to me.
I am keeping everyone in my prayers for an uneventful surgery and a speedy recouperation. Happy lossing once you reach the other side of the tracks.
Lots of Love
Kathy

How are you doing with the protein? I am 8 days post op, had my RNY on 7/6/06, and still have quite a bit of nausea. I'm on clear liquids but have been given to okay to proceed toward full liquids. I'm staying away from milk products, because I think that might be causing some of the nausea. Any advice for this fellow newbie? Keep up the great work. Sounds like things are going extremely well for you. I had a 5 day hospital stay due to esophogus swelling also.
Thanks,
Lynette
