Had surgery & back to tell about it

Hey All you July Babies, I had my surgery on July 3rd and it wasn't as bad as I had thought it would be. I got good drugs that took the edge off the pain. The nursing staff at St. Mary's were wonderful to me. I did everything I was supposed to do including wallking & walking and more walking (pushing my IV/pain meds pole). My wonderful husband was there with me thoughout the whole ordeal and I did just fine. My esphagus did swell and that's the only complication I had. The swelling went down and I'm fine now. It was just a little tricky trying to get the upper GI done when nothing would go down. This caused me to stay in the hospital a day longer so I didn't get sprung until Friday. It was quite a week. This past week at home has been nice. I am doing my liquid diet, getting in my protein, and water. So far I have lost 22 lbs. Not bad huh? LOL I am pretty excited over my weight loss. I dieted for 6 months prior to surgery and only lost 9 lbs so 23 is a big deal to me. I am keeping everyone in my prayers for an uneventful surgery and a speedy recouperation. Happy lossing once you reach the other side of the tracks. Lots of Love Kathy 305/283/185/160

I'm glad your doing so well. Thats great. And the weight loss is awesome. Much good luck to you. I'm still scheduled for the 31st, if my PCP would just get my claerance letter out to the surgeon. Many Blessings, Gloria

How are you doing with the protein? I am 8 days post op, had my RNY on 7/6/06, and still have quite a bit of nausea. I'm on clear liquids but have been given to okay to proceed toward full liquids. I'm staying away from milk products, because I think that might be causing some of the nausea. Any advice for this fellow newbie? Keep up the great work. Sounds like things are going extremely well for you. I had a 5 day hospital stay due to esophogus swelling also. Thanks, Lynette RNY 7/6/06 249/237
