Hi everyone: My surgery has been approved and is scheduled and now my PCP is requiring more testing before she will cleazr me for surgery. In a way its good because she wants to be sure that everything has been checked out but it also scares me. She is requesting pulmonary tests and a stress test which my surgeons office doesn't require. I pray they turn out o.k. Has anyone else experienced this? Sweating in Pa. Gloria

Hey Gloria, I had the same thing happen to me. My insurance only required a Physic test. Then my doctor wanted an Stress test. I went in for my pre-op test and my iron was low (one week before surgery) then decided to cancel the surgery because he wanted a Colonoscopy and Endoscopy. Now that I have been cleared for surgery on July 10th in retrospect I feel good about it because I know everything is alright which can prevent post-op problems. As I said in my profile things will happen in Gods time not mine. GOOD LUCK Lamont P.S. Where in PA

Hello Big Funn: Thank you so much for sharing your experience. Your right if God brings you to it, he can get you through it. Anyway I have my stress test on July 3rd and my pulmonary test on July 14th. If both go well My surgery date won't be affected. I'll wait and pray now. Take care of yourself and God Bless. Gloria

Big Funn: I forgot to tell you that I'm about 60 miles south of Pittsburgh, Pa. I'm close to the little town of Uniontown. Sorry I forgot to reply to that the first time. Hey I'm doing that stop smoking thing also. I'm using the nicotine patches. So far so good. I've smoked off and on since I was 16 and I'm 50, so its like losing an old friend. I know we'll both be much healthier minus the cancer sticks. Whats a African American female to do? I know exactly what to do , I'll get more involved in church and read my bible because I've been in the valley and God lifted me up and put my feet on a solid rock and I give him all the praise for getting me tyo where I am today. Take care and God Bless, Gloria

Hi Gloria.... I'm sure everything will turn out okay! Its so much better to err on the side of caution especially before undergoing surgery. My husband had a "simple" sinus surgery - and we were unaware of some issues that he had and wound up in intensive care so its probably better to be safe (if that helps any!) I think that everything will probably be fine and if there are issues the surgeon and anesthesiologist will know prior to surgery so thats a good thing! Everything happens for a reason and maybe its a blessing in disguise because even if it turns out to be nothing you have more confidence while having surgery... Does this affect your surgery date? Keep me posted! Heather

Hi Heather: No so far the extra testing won't affect my surgery date. Lets pray that all goes well with the tests. My stress test is scheduled for July 3rd and my breathing test for July 14th. My surgery is July 31st so all the results should be in in plenty of time. Thanks so much for the support. Gloria

Hi Gloria, Our doctors must be related. Today I also just found out from my PCP he wants me to have a stress test. Big Funn I'm in the same boat as you with my iron levels. My iron has always been low there was no surprise. I didn't realize it would mess with my surgery which is by the way also July 10. Like eveyone has said Gloria we rather be safe than sorry. Take care and good luck. Patience

Yes, and if you have obstructive sleep apnea, meet with the anesthesiologist too!!! The anesthesiologist I had botched my intubation when I was supposed to have the surgery in May. Spent three days in ICU, two on a ventilator, and had to wait an extra six weeks. Extra tests are a pain, but well worth it.

Hi Gloria, I know how you feel. I was scheduled for surgery on June 22, but my iron was low and so I had to have a colonoscopy and endoscopy. I had that done Tuesday and I am now waiting on the results. I am staying positive that it will be ok. I was very upset at first and cried a lot. When you are ready, it is hard. But now I am glad that I have a doctor that cares enough to make sure I am at my best for surgery. The pulmonary test and stress test should be ok. Those were pretty easy. You will be in my thoughts that all goes well for you. Hugs your way, Dee

Hey Gloria, Try not to stress yourself about these test. If everything is okay, you certainly don't want stress to be the reason you don't pass them. Try your best to relax, take a walk, just breathe and take it easy. I know it's difficult because I had a long wait to get my date and clearance. Everything is scheduled for July 3rd. 2 days from now. Wow....I can't believe it's here!!! Thank you for the wonderful reply to my earlier post about July Babies!!! I will keep you in my prayers for good test results and a definite surgery date!! Lots of Love Kathy-2 days til surgery
