I'm a little disappointed, since my surgery is in three weeks i was asking my mom what she thought about it, and when i asked her this earlier she said she wouldn't be paying for it if she didn't believe in me, and now today she's telling me that she's wondering if i'll be able to stick with it, which doesn't help when i'm trying to achieve something this major in my life.(i'm only 17 that's why my mom is paying for surgery hehe) Sondra

HI Sondra, I see you live in Pueblo, are you going to Penrose? I think the best thing you can do is to just show your mom you mean business. She loves you and is just worried about you and doesn't want to see anyrthing happen but good things for you. So sit down with her and have a nice heart to heart. I am coming to Colorado Springs to have my surgery...I wish you well with yours.

Hi, Have you ever considered have the DS? (duodenal switch) You can eat more normally, have a real functioning stomach instead of a pouch, no problems with strictures, and has better long term weight loss. It is a malabsorptive procedure, so you don't have to worry as much about trying to stick to rigid food guidelines. If interested in checking it out, check out the DS board: http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/DS/posts.html And also Melissa Mermaid's profile: http://www.obesityhelp.com/morbidobesity/profile.phtml?N=M1075682974 If your mom is paying for it, you can get the DS in Brazil or Mexico a lot less than in the states. I also was scheduled for RNY when someone led me to research the DS. Good luck and God bless, Jaime

Sondra. Just hang in there, you so close. Your mom I know means well and I'm sure she will help and support you all the way. Just don't let it affect your decision you've already made . I went out and bought both of Carnie Wilsons book on Friday and haven't been able to put them down the st one called Gut Feeling is pretty much about her growing up as an obese person I haven't even gotten to the part about her deciding to have surgery, But everything she 's said so far I can really relate to . I can't wait to finish and start on the second one which is called I'm Still Hungry. You might want to check these out for some inspiration. bEST OF LUCK AND KEEP IN TOUCH. Kathi
