Topic: Firming Plans to WIN the Cancer battle!!
Many of you know I have stage 4 cancer in my neck having metastasized from my tongue. The prognosis is really quite good, but getting there will be beyond difficult. Next Friday, I have every one of my teeth pulled so the decay is minimized post radiation treatment. The next week I will have a feeding tube inserted through my belly since I won't be able to swallow after a few weeks into the chemo/radio period. This scares the hell out of me: I want to make sure that my cancer surgeon understands all the issues and the 2 solid years of healing don't get compromised. Also, will they prepare a vitamin/mineral mixture to pump into me? I may have my RNY surgeon call him. If you have any ideas or experiences, please share them this weekend. This 7 week Ch/Ra therapy will start in mid September. I'll then heal through late November and December. Neck surgery will follow in January. I may get my teeth in Dec. or Jan. I hope to be back on all eight cylinders by early March. Since the cancer has progressed the "big guns" will be employed. UK's Markey Center will provide services. We've met some incredible and caring folks throughout the 2 months of diagnosis and treatment planning. They must have taken lessons from y'all!!! Mo, thanks, sis!! Peter and Andrea, save a glass of wine for me...I'll see you next year!!! Dave

Topic: RE: Helpful Suggestions
I reached goal after about 9 months and continued to lose until I was about 10 pounds below goal. I let about 4 - 7 pounds creep back on (Andrea that also answers your question). I'm still at a normal BMI but wanted to get those few pounds back off so I went back to high protein/low carb and only good carbs. I've seen about 2 pounds come back off in the last week and a half. When I went to "purge" my house of the bad carbs, I was shocked at how many had "crept" back into the pantry. I also need to get back to exercising but for now I'll take one thing at a time....good luck and let us know what you decide. Maria 272/155/149 pre/goal/current

Topic: Helpful Suggestions
My surgery was in July 2005 and I have lost about 100 pounds. I still have about 60 more to go. My weight loss has really slowed down and is almost non-existent at this point. Any helpful suggestions will be most appreciated! Thanks everyone.

Topic: RE: How long do we have to drink protein supplements?
Latisha- My nutritionist encourages people to get off protein drinks as soon as possible (once you are getting 60 gr. of protein) because liquid is not as filling as more dense protein. In contrast, Peter's doctor allows him to continue protein drinks indefinitely.

Thanks for your response. I have been debating whether to continue the supplements. Are you still losing or have you just about leveled out? I think I am leveling out and just hovering around the same weight now. Thanks again for listening. Have an awesome day!

Hi Latisha You can get off of protein drinks whenever you feel comfortable that you received the daily intake of 60 grams or more from solid foods. I am 2 years out and I still take the shakes for breakfast because I cnanot stomach breakfast food that early in the morning. So I still use them.

Hello everyone. I have a quick question. I had my surgery on 07/27/2005 and I am wondering how long are suppose to drink protein supplements? Is anyone still taking them? I still drink them but I am getting rather tired of them and as you all know they can be expensive. Your response is greatly appreciated!
