Sue, I'm sorry your boyfriend turned out to be an ass. You're a beautiful, sensitive woman and deserve better than the way he treated you, and I'm not just talking about the boorish way he broke up with you. What the hell was he thinking? The problem is he wasn't thinking at all. Guys don't understand how their words can affect women emotionally. This comes from how we communicate to other guys. Conversations between men are usually short and to the point. Thats fine if you're buying a hammer but not so good when somebodys heart is at stake. Obviously this guy hasn't a clue. Rest assured if you stayed with him long enough he would do it again many more times. He tried to comfort you after the fact but it was too little too late. He probably didn't even know why you were upset, just that you were. I'm not trying to condone his behavour in any way, just explain it. The stuff about you being to old is him trying to justify his decision to himself, it really has nothing to do with you. You should be congratulated for getting out there and trying.
