Hemotologist

I received my latest labs back, my iron is officially in the toliet! I need to call the hemotologist tomorrow and schedule an appointment. My ferritan level is 3, should be 15 or higher, my total iron is 12, should be over 40, and my total iron binding capicity is 549 and should be 200 - 450. This level is high which means severe anemia. Anyone else in the same boat as me? If so what are they doing for you? Thank you! Nancy

Hi Nancy, My iron was also really really low - and my doc threatened e with transfusions and such if I didn't go take the right stuff. I had been buying the wrong kind of iron at Walmart - cheaper, I thought - and taking it but it wasn't absorbing properly. So, I went to Bariatric Advantage and bought the right kind - I take the 29mg Passion Fruit chewables twice a day - My doc suggested 60 a day total - I figure I get a little more from other sources in food etc. I'm getting my bloodwork done this week as well - so hopefully, things have changed in that department!
