I CANNOT believe she said that

Once a week I work in this little home boutique making floral arrangements (didn't know that??....it's in my profile). I work with this lady (Dianne) who is, for the most part, a very nice, agreeable woman. I have known her since August, so she has seen me when I was much, much heavier. Anyway....the topic of my weight loss came up and she was quite complimentary, but she started harping on her sweet daughter-in-law's weight. She (the daughter-in-law) is currently pregnant for the third time and never lost the weight from the last pregnancy. Well Dianne was telling me that she is always pushing her daughter-in-law to lose the weight and to exercise some self control and have a little willpower. She has about 50 lbs to lose and Dianne is under the impression that it would only take her 3 or 4 months to lose it with diet and exercise! I wanted to smack the sh*t out of her!!!! Dianne's about a size 6 btw! Can you imagine having a mother-in-law that felt your weight was her business and felt comfortable interjecting her opinions about it? Of course, my own mother-in-law does the same thing! She was always the thinnest person in the family and would tell us how fat she was just to get compliments! But Dianne is truly disgusted with this girls weight............. What should I say if she brings it up again? This really irritates me!! C

The poor woman is probably eating more when her mother-in-law says that. I don't know what to tell you-- I tend to say what I think and regret it later- If she brings it up again, perhaps you can say that it is very hard to lose weight and from your own personal experience, people harping on your weight ususally made you eat more because you felt badly about yourself (this was the case with me actually). It might be a nice way to close the conversation. Beyond that, I don't know. Andrea

Andrea, I also have the "open mouth, insert foot syndrome"! It's gotten especially bad post-op. I guess since I'm not eating as much, I have more free time to stick my foot in my mouth!! I'm looking into getting a gag ball! Ha! Maybe Grace could help me out with her sex toy web site! HA!! Loves, C Grace!!!!!! I'm inlisting your help!! Any suggestions?

I too agree with Andrea. I'd volunteer (if it is true for you, it is for me) that pressure about my weight made me feel bad--so I'd eat even more. I'd tell her that the biggest help she can provide is to be warm, loving, and listening. When, and IF, her daughter-in-law raised the weight issue, that is the time to be supportive. Anything else is counter-productive and can drive a wedge in their relationship. -Pam

Same here. I ate so much when I felt bad about myself. It was like to punish me more I guess. And it really is none of "lil Mrs. Size 6's" business! lol BTW, HELLOOOO I am BACKKK!!! My puter been acting up, actually, it's a new one, and I lost all my passwords! But I am back! Thanks Channon for kicking me in the butt!
