Running
Okay I have said my entire life I will NEVER run unless someone is chasing me. I am starting to feel really good about myself and so I am thinking that I should start running.
How do you start? I am in an exercise class that works strictly on the treadmill. I have started running about 1 minute at a time. My lungs are then killing me. Do I need to develop them more? If so, how? If not what am I doing wrong?
HELP!!!!
Nance!!!!!!!!
Woot Woot!
Us runners sucked in another one....yea!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Or should I say "suckered" another one!! HA!
Okay, first of all, 1 minute is a GREAT start!
This is what I did: I ran at night so that I felt more comfortable not having the world watch me...hehe!
Okay:
Walk for 4/jog 30 sec. (week 1-2)
Walk for 4min/jog 1 min (week 2-3)
Walk for 3min/jog 1 min (week 3-4)
From then on you just build your stamina by increasing your run time and decreasing your walk time until the run times mesh together. It took me about two months (I was not very diligent about it) to build up to this. Now I run for 45 minutes straight without walking ( I am a slow runner! I have short legs). Make sure that you drink water before you go and take some tunes with you. Also-I chew gum while running. It keeps my mouth moist. I know some people think this is a no-no, but it works for me!
Don't worry about your lungs-they are just in shock. It's part of the build-up process. Runners tend to have higher lung capacity, but you have to build it up.
I'm soooo proud of you!!
Good luck girl!
