I got burned!!!

Okay, so I've always been in weather where the sun is out and its easy to get a tan ... so being in the Great Northwest this past year in a half, I'm as white as I've ever been!! The saying is, brown fat is better than white fat (J/K) ... so I got my butt to a tanning salon for the first time in my life. Put down $130 for 10 tans in a high pressure bed and some good tanning lotion that is supposed to 10x your tan. Well, after 12 minutes my back felt warm so I figured its just from the bulbs. When I got home and looked at my backside (back, butt, thighs and calves) I was bright red and hurting ... and I mean hurting. Yesterday evening and today I'm putting on aloe vera but ... I'm hurting and I'm doing a 3.5 mile walk along Eliots Bay in Seattle tomorrow morning ... ouch!! I can barely wear my sportsbra but I gotta do this since I only exercised twice this week and I'm already registered! N e ways, just thought I'd whine a little and warn you guys, if you haven't tanned in awhile and going to tanning salon, take it easy and don't do the full time ... you will get burned!!

How long were you under the lights? More than the 12 minutes? I was going to comment about us northwest natives taking every opportunity to stand out in what little sun we get up here to tan (or rust) -- then I realized what little tan I have is from going to other places (most recently California) to get it. I was only under there for 12 minutes, but apparently since it was my first time, it should only have been 8. I just dont know why my front is barely burned, but my back looks fried!! It feels alot better today, but I still cant wear a bra and will have to wear my sportsgbra for the rest of the week ... Yeah, I was out in the sun the whole day yesterday and loved every minute of it!! M.

Marlize, It's sooooo good to see your cute little face up on the screen. I have come to miss it! I'm sorry about the burn!! I'm a red-head living in Arizona so my skin never sees the light of day! I burn incredibly fast!! Then it just peels off. We have these "spray on tan" places here that I will go to if I want a bronze look. They mist you with this tanning spray. It's pretty cool. It's been too long babe! Come back and visit more often! We miss you! C Leigh

LOL ... thanks girl, I've been a lurker lately!! BTW, you are doing so good ... and I love your new pics, you look AMAZING!!!!!!! I was going to do the spray on tan, but I have a few too many folds still so I wanted it kinda even and if I lie down, I somewhat get that ... somewhat!! Luckily it feels alot better today although I still cant wear a bra, but dont be horrified, the girls are being supported by a sportsbra!! DH is saying the my lower back is starting to turn brown, so I'll go again in a couple of days and see how it goes!! I'll try to post more and catch up with you guys!!

Oh Marlize, I'm so sorry that happened to you. Thank you so much for sharing though because I have been thinking of doing the tanning salon thing too. I'll make sure I only go in for a short time at first. Hope you feel better soon! And don't be such a stranger!

Thanks Michelle ... yeah, it was my own stupidity, but I have to say it does feel better today and DH says my lower back is starting to turn brown! I have to wait a couple of days before I go back, but I really hope it I get a good tan with all the folds and such!! I've been a lurker, but I'll post a little more this week!!

Hey Marlize~ Same exact thing happend to me last week. I too tan very easy and I went for 10 min the first 2 times so Wednesday night thought I would be good to go for 12 minutes I looked like a freaking lobster!!! My son told me I looked like an alien!!! I was thinking maybe it had something to do with all the changes my body has been through! Maybe my chemical make up is different now! After all the rain and snow most recently we have had here in the Pacific NW it sure does feel good in that tanning booth!!!!!! xoxoxox~ Grace

I think I've learned my lesson!! Funny thing was, that it was only my backside, my front looked fine!!! LOL ... "alien", kids can be so brutally honest!!! I've just been putting on loads of aloe, and its helping alot, although still hurts were my bra straps are! I'm really gonna take it easy though, wait a couple of days and then go in again! And I was out whole day cuz it was just so beautiful yesterday!! I hope it stays like this for the whole week! I hope our tans turn out really good, I have a few folds so I'm hoping it will look even!

I use to own a tanning salon... USE Menthol Shaving cream to cool off in shower.. should last about a week...peel and then brown ever after..sorry it hurts..I know the feeling well... No hugs till burn goes away... Pattiann
