how important is protein?
Lisa ~ Protein is VERY important. I do not drink my protein, as I get all I need from food. If I happen to be low I will supplement, but that is very rare. Yes...lack of protein will hinder weightloss, but it will also make it more likely that you will lose a lot of muscle mass, because you are not replenishing the protein in your body and your body may start eating your muscle instead of the fat. Keep track of what you eat in a day and plug it into www.fitday.com, just to see how much protein you are getting in a day. I was told that I needed about 60 g protein per day. Hope this helps and doesn't come across as b*tchy.

Lisa,
My dr recommend I get minimum 60 grams of protein....I usually get about 90 to 100 or more of protein daily...
I'm about the same as you I think I've lost about 79 pounds so far.
I usually will supplement 3 meals w/protein supplements...I usually have a shake in the morning and then for my snacks I have a protein bar.
hope this helps...

Lisa,
Good to see you again.
Protein and mucles burn fat!!!! Find it in some form that you are able to tolerate: shakes, protein bars (Zone Perfect bars are awesome!! Wal Mart & Target), cheese, beans and of course there is good old fashioned meat!!
I have appointments all day, but when I get home, I'll do some research for you and tell you what I find out...ok?

In My Opinion (and I'm 6 lbs from my goal) protein is the **KEY** to this surgery. At this point males need 100+ grams a day, female 75+ grams a day. Another *Key* is to keep fat less than 20g, carbs less than 60g and exercise for at least 1hr a day and keep fluid intake high and you will loose.
Best wishes!
