Need To Hear From Slow Losers
Hello to the July 05 WLS Friends,
I have been searching the forums and library to find out about slow losers like myself. My surgery was 11/1/05. I have lost 46 pounds since I started my weight loss quest but only 32 have been lost post op. I am 5'10 and pre-op starting weight (by my doctor's scale) was 302. I now weigh 270. In my search I have found that many people mentioned breaking up your calories over 6 meals per day (my doctor suggested the same) to keep the metabolism going. The leader at my support group meeting said that resistance training is the only way to permanently improve a sluggish metabolism. A couple of posters mentioned that they found out they were insulin resistant and were given glucophage by their doctors which speeded up their weight loss. I diligently spread my meals over 6 meals for a 2 week period and I did lose almost 10 pounds during the 2 weeks which is very good for me. It is very difficult to eat every 2-3 hours even though it is only a fist full of food. I am refocusing on doing that again for 2 weeks to see if it helps. Also my support group leader did not seem to be overly concerned. She said she has seen some people start out very fast and slow way down, some people start out slow and then speed up and some people lose slow and steady but the individual weight loss patterns does not prevent reaching goal.
Dear Divine,
Thanks for reaffirming that we'll all get there if we continue to work at it.
I did enjoy the almost six month period of eating (a small amount of) anything and losing weight. Now that I'm past 6 months my body definately slows down to carbs and is faster with proteins.
I also do better eating more often, but less food. It continues to be a learning process for me.
