A Valentine's Poem for my Love...
so maybe we aren't as young as we were
my dear
and perhaps we don't find as much delight in bed
as we do in our being together with our children
but you still have that smile that makes me weak in
the knees
and the way you grab my hand surreptitiously in
the grocery store
every bit as sexy as you when you were 22.
i watch you when you sleep on sunday afternoons
and kiss your brow quietly
it has become deeper, this love
this connection
not so much passion
as trust and belief
that you like no other know me
know the way i throw my clothes on the floor
or leave the toothpaste open
or eat pizza and chocolate when i have PMS
or cry at silly family commercials
or sneak naps
or smoke too many cigarettes
or have to read until 3:32 in the morning to fall
into blissful sleep
You know me as no one has or will
and for this i love you more than anyone
has or will.
