Sleep Study
Got a call from my PCP's office today. They made an appointment for me to see a Dr. at a sleep studies clinic for the purpose of getting me off my CPAP. I've been wearing that damn thing for the last 7 years and can't wait to be rid of it. My initial consultatin with the doctor is next Thursday hopefully to be followed up with an overnight stay.
The next question is what to do with my CPAP once I don't need it anymore. I hate it but it also helped keep me alive when my obesity was at it's worst. My apnea was so severe my very life was in danger. Soooo....should I give it to charity? (TAX DEDUCTION!!!) Sell it? ($$$) Find another use for it? (FISH TANK??) Retire it to the basement? (TOO MUCH CRAP DOWN THERE ALREADY) Or take my 12 gauge Remington to it? (TOO DESTRUCTIVE) Just as long as I don't have to wear it.
The best thing is that this is a big sign of my improving health and one of the reasons I had my surgery. We talk about dating and looking good but the most important reason we, or at least I, did this was to improve our health and extend our lives.
Take care all and keep on getting healthier

Tim,
First of all.... CONGRATS!! I have not been sleeping with mine. My hubby says my snoring is almost NIL, so I think I've been cured. I'm bad... I need to go get checked out before I just stop like this, but I hate that thing! LOL Maybe this is just the boost I need, I'll try to call this week to get the appointment!
CONGRATS!!!
I'd like to say I'd donate mine, but with finances the way they are right now... I'd probably sell it!

Just for the record, my husband uses a CPAP. Before his surgery I had to wear earplugs and my sleeping life was a bit miserable.
From DAY ONE after his surgery, absolutely NO snoring. Woo-hoo! We thought that meant his apnea issues were pretty much over. The docs, gave us the benefit of the doubt, said it was really too soon for such a positive benefit, and sent him back for a sleep test.
Unfortunately, his apnea is NOT cured, he just doesn't snore now. (They said maybe the breathing tube from surgery help resolve the snoring, but they expected it wouldn't last. We are at almost 7 mos. out for him and still, no snoring.) They won't retest with a sleep study for nine months - but at least my room is nice and quiet now. Err, not quiet, we went from the loud snoring to the sound of forced air - like Darth Vader is breathing on me! But somehow, it is better.
Moral of the story is, snoring does not impact the apnea. Try to tolerate the CPAP and use it until you have a sleep study to confirm your issues have resolved.
Just my 2 cents.
Someone told me that you can not sell it because it is illegal since you need a doctors prescription to have it and they need to be callibrated to what your individual needs are.
When my mom passed away years ago and had a neubulizer the only thing we could do was donate it, not sell it.
I have NEVER used mine and it is still basically brand new so I would love to find out what we can do with them.
Please let us know what the doctor says about this and CONGRATS for the awesome weightloss and the ability to not use it anymore!!

Tim-
That is amazing-- Let us know how the test goes.
You're absolutely right-- I know I did this for health reasons and I have already seen the benefits... All this other stuff is gravy, but gosh I feel like I have been given my life back health wise, emotionally etc.
I'd give it to charity! It's a tax write off and you'll be helping someone *****ally needs help.
