Calculating questions
Hey everyone,
How do YOU calculate your weight loss? Is it from your highest weight or from your surgery date? Just wondering. I'm 101 down from my highest, but 92 from DOS.
As for me--I count from my DOS-so no century club for me just yet!! The countdown has begun!!!
I'm already two lbs down from our Sunday weigh in. Oh Yeah!!
Woot Woot!!

I calculate from my starting point. Here's my story...
When I was trying to qualify, my home scale said 235/6 but when I went to the doc - shoes on - cell phone in pocket, etc (haha) - his scale weighed me at 231. So I thought, hmmm his is lower than mine. On the day of surgery, I was weighed at the hospital on a regular ol scale. Weight was 226. Of course I had for 10 hours strait right before this, and had not eaten or drank anything, so I really don't count that as a true weight, and since I'll never see that particular scale again - I don't give it much thought.
Funny thing is though, after surgery - and a GAIN of at least 15 pounds!!! (I was hospitalized for quite a while, and the fluid retention was fierce!) Anyway.....back to my story.... after surgery, and upon my next visit to the doc and his lovely "weigh me less" scale, it started weighing me 3 pounds higher than my home scale everytime! Probably got calibrated or something stupid like that. SOOOOOOOOOOO Point I'm trying to make here is that I have NO frickin' clue what I weighed - except at home. So that's the one I use!
That's my story and I'm stickin' to it!

Kimberly - who, believe it or not, is NOT on darvacet tonite. This is just me! Well, I did dye my hair a little more blonde, so perhaps that's taking root! :haha
I use my own personal scale from the day before surgery. Everyone is different and there is no right or wrong answer.
When I had posted that I made the century mark I was "yelled" at by people because I had not been counting from my highest weight and they said it was wrong.
I think you have to make a decision and stick with it. I want to know where the surgery has got me so that is why I use the number I use.

down 105 from surgery (since this is what we are talking about I will post numbers)
down 125 from highest weight
i don't know either... i just found out at the time i went to my primary back in 2003 to start the process- i was 281- never thought i was that heavy- my home scale was weighing me a little less. the time i got to see the endocringolgist that gave me the referral to my surgeon- iwas 280 that day. april 2003. when i got to see the surgeon october 2003- i was 275. the last appointment for physical for surgery- 8 days before surgery- i was 275- morning of surgery my home scale weighed me at 263 i was only on a 3 day liquid diet- nothing else "special" just the fleet (bowel prep) so i bet i was still 273. only 2 days after surgery i was at home 255-and yesterday i was 165.. so i'm not sure... now.. what to do... if i have made the century mark-if i haven't.. anyone please advise.... if i start with the 275 or 280 or the 263 or what???

Well I weighed 268 at my pre-surgical consult and that's the weight I go by because that's the weight THEY go by. I also gained weight in the hospital because of fluid retention, up to 271. If I went by that weight, I would be getting very close to being in the century club. The day of surgery I weighed 266. When all is said and done, these few pounds up or down are not gonna make an iota of difference, IMO. So I'm just stickin' with my pre-surgical weight.
Hi C.
I go by my weight the day of surgery, I was weighed right before surgery. The scale said 290 on July 18th right before the operation and thats what I go by. To me it only seems right this is called 'weight loss surgery'.. and what follows should be a accounting of weight lost since that time. I know that many people do not agree with me on this. But thats how I personaly feel. I used to think it was deceptive to include pre-op weight loss because thats just what it is 'pre-op'. And when someone like me see's someone elses weight at 30 or 40 poinds down more than mine at the same point from surgery.. then finds out they have included their pre-op weight it can be discourageing. Just my humble opinion.

Mo
290(day of surgery)/205 ( current) 150 ( goal)
I do agree with ya there. If someone lost 30 or 40 pounds or even 20 before surgery, that could be deceptive. But when you're only talking 5 or 6.... nah, why bother?
Some people go on a diet for 6 months before surgery etc... and that's where those larger numbers come in probably. But...it is still weight loss, and I'm sure it was hard earned weight loss. And they did lose it in order to have the surgery, it was all part of the process.
OK - I'm confused now - I'm just playing the devil's advocate here. I see both sides to the story. Does OH have an opinion on this I wonder?
Things that make you go hmmmmmmmmmmmm
