Miserable...
Hey everyone,
I don't want to be a downer today. I am just feeling sorry for myself. I was on sulfa-based antibiotics last week, and came to find out that I am allergic to them. I have a rash from my head to my feet. OMG, I am in misery. I'm up now cause I can't sleep cause I itch so freaking much. The Dr. put me on prednesone, and I am to take benedryl, but it hasn't kicked in yet. It's better than it was, but now I get these random welts all over that itch worse than anything I've ever experienced. Then they go away for a few hours. Oh man, this is going to drive me INSANE!! Has anyone else ever had something like this? What helps?? I swear, I am going crazy.
Thanks for listening.
Hugs to all,
Lisa
YESSSSSS.........Absolutely!!!
It was the week before prom! I had my dress, the shoes, the whole sha-bang! I took one dose of amoxicillin and I swelled up like a balloon. I was covered in a rash and my veins were opening up to release the medicine from my system. I was covered in bruises. I looked like I had been beaten and left for dead. Even my eyelids swelled shut. My feet were so swollen that when I would stand up I could feel the fluid squish out of my feet. It was awful! I took sleeping pills and benadryl to sleep it off and aveeno and witch hazel for the itch. I don't remember how well that worked, but I remember that it lasted almost a whole week.
Oh honey, I'm so sorry about that!!!!!!
I'll be thinking about you!! Let us know how things go.
Sorry sweetie,
C Leigh
Lisa-
I am sooo sorry this happened to you. Just be glad they caught it quickly, or it could have been more serious. Hang in there, it should get out of your system in a week or so.
FYI, stay away from NSAIDs as well (if you are not already due to the RNY) -- they also cause skin reactions, and if you have allergies to antibiotics, it might occur there as well.
Hang in there, and I really hope it gets better soon.

Several things to suggest. I had some minor plastic surgery just before christmas (had a mole removed). I had an alergic reaction to something from the surgery. Have had a problem with a rash an various parts of my body ever since (over a month). Got a referal from my PCP so I saw a dermatologist this last week and she suggested several things that have helped. She pointed out that whatever I was alergic to will take time to work out of my system and that the best course for now is to just treat the itching, because the more I itch the more itching there will be. Sort of a double edged sword, so to speak.
Over the counter-
Aveeno Bath treatment (used this last night and it provided some nice relief).
Sarna Original Lotion (she said to use original not "improved" it works better) and it does help.
She also suggested any of the Aveeno products for bath/shower soaps and oils.
Claritin Reditabs (very WLS friendly) if you are having any itchy eyes or hayfever type symptoms.
Presciption-
She gave a prescription for Clobetasol Propionate Cream-This stuff is an industrial strength version of Cortisone Cream. It works really well but you CAN NOT use more than prescribed because she said it will wear away the dermal layer (I think that is how she put it but I'm not 100% on her wording).
Good Luck!
