truthfully?? As long as you can. You do not see the maximum benefits of cardio until you have been on at least 40 minutes (according to my personal trainer, of course they all have their own believes). No matter what, the harder you push yourself the better your workout is!!! Good luck, Nancy

I started at 15 minutes post surgery at 2.2mph. I worked up to 30 minutes and then started cranking the speed up. When I got up to 3.7 mph; I switched to the eliptical.

If you really want to intensify your treadmill workout try using on that has an adjustable incline to it. I walk 20 to 30 min. at a speed of 3.2 and an incline of 8%, really makes a HUGE difference. I then do 20 to 30 min. on the eliptical and 20 min on the bike with no rest inbetween.
