ordered to stay off treadmill
so- my back pain got worse. I was told i have degenerative disk disease- whatever that means? anywhoo- i had to go back to the chiropractor because all of a sudden on monday my back got WORSE than before- and it all over the back- not just the lower. and he asked what i did the day before- i told him- went faster and longer on the treadmill- but i felt great- i actually LOST a POUND- and he said- well i probably should've told you when you first came in- that when your back hurts- you should not exercise.. (UH? someone telling me not to exercise?? i was so confused by that) and he said- that i have a BACK INJURY and i shouldn't be exercising in long spirts (ok since when is 20 minutes or 30 minutes long?) that i can do 5 minutes here 5 minutes there- but i need to focus on stretching- and core stability exercises- heck i have lost 20 inches in my waist in 6 months and all of my back fat is gone- so i have this weight now that's so uneven where before i had at least back fat to stable the stomach weight (i've always had thin arms and legs).. so my back (spine) can't handle that "pressure" and too stop even walking for at least a week or TWO?? alrighty... it's so weird- when you're told you CAN"T do it- that's when i want too...

Jennifer,
Wow, you have had a stinker of a time lately!! Just wondering---Have you thought about yoga? It's very relaxing and it really stretches you out. I used to take it at the local community college a few years back. I loved it, but we moved and it was no longer convenient. I still miss it.
Hope your back in the saddle (or treadmill) soon,
C Leigh
i have DDD too and it's where the soft tissue between your discs degenerates into scar tissue. studies (by autopsy) have shown that many many people have had this and never even knew it so it's controversial whether or not that alone causes pain.
be very careful about chiropractors. especially if they're the ones who practice "subluxation" theory. I've been hurt badly by chiropractors (i have several herniated discs, foraminal impingements and stenosis besides the DDD) and at best i've gotten only temporary relief that leads to more long term damage. Physical therapists can achieve the same or better results without wearing your discs due to snapping your spine into place and they won't claim to cure diseases based on the alignment of your spine. But the main thing is subluxation theory (what chiropracty is founded upon) has been thoroughly disproved.
