I have really been thinking about not having the surgery for my hernia, I have been feeling a little better but honestly I have had quite a bit of pain at times, Im really confused on what to do, does any one have more info on how this can help me to get a tummy tuck later on???thanks Lisa MJ

I do not really have "information" but even my surgeon told me that I will not pay very much for a tummy tuck if I have it done at the same time as my hernia repair. From what I understand the main costs of any surgery are the hospital and anathesia (not spelled right) costs. Your insurance pay for both of those without a question because you are having the hernia repaired. All you need to possibly cover (and this varies by insurance) is the doctors charge for the tummy tuck. I have a friend who paid 500 for a tummy tuck because the insurance paid all the hospital costs. She had her second surgery at about 16 months out and was doing wonderful the last time I saw her. Just so you know, I have heard from many people that hernia repair is a lot more painful than open RNY. I am not sure if you had open or lap but be prepared for a lot of pain!!! It is worth in the long run (and not really a choice in the long run) but be prepared mentally. I know that I am and I hope to not have my hernias repaired for another 13 months!! Good luck, Nancy

Nancy you have 2 hernias? do you have any pain from them? did the surgeon that performed your WLS recomend that you wait and have the hernias and the tummy tuck at the same time? Im 6 months out and have never been back to the WLS surgeon for any type of check up its to far away and I just dont have the money for gas and my car probabally wont make it..all the info I can get gathered before next Tuesday is very helpful thanks again Lisa MJ

Document!!! Make sure that your Dr. documents as much as possible about your hernia. This is your ammo for the ins. company. When the time is right (weight loss has leveled out) go see a plastic surgeon and bring your documented health history with you. They will help you file. C Leigh

Yes, I went to my six month exam last week and I told him I have a hernia and he felt all around and told me No, you have TWO hernias. The other is so small I can not feel it yet but the first one is the size of a softball. The second one actually gives me some pain but I have lived with for a while, just did not know it was a hernia pain. I am hoping that I can wait 13 more months!! Feel free to email me if you want/need to! Nancy
