76 Lbs in 5 1/2 months not enough
I have a question for everyone. I went to see my surgion and he really depressed me. I was so excited to have lost 76 lbs. in 5 1/2 months. He told me he was disappointed in me and felt I should have lost at least 150. What is everyone elses oppinon. I am not able to do a lot of exercising because of my knees ( hurt me to bad.) I am now able to clean house and do so much more for myself. I am still losing weight and proud of my success. I had my surgery July 28 2005. How are some of your numbers in loss. Please help me to feel better about myself.
Hi Janice, I am so sorry to hear that your doctor does not agree that a 76 pound loss is 'not enough'... tell him to go get 7 - 10 pound bags of rice and walk around all day..... then say 'it's not enough'.. Just keep doing what you are supposed to and your body will tell you what is 'enough'. I had surgery on July 26th 2005 and I have lost 70 pounds and I feel great about it!! You are doing wonderful and don't get discouraged because 76 pounds is a HUGE accomplishment.. especially in only 5 1/2 months... Now turn that frown up side down and be happy with your progress... we are all here for you!

Shannan thank you so much for your incouragement. It helps to hear from all of you guys. I started out at 370 the day of surgery. I was so proud of losing the 76 Lbs. I know if I could excercise like the Dr. wants me to I could probable lose more but it is so hard when it hurts so much. People just don't understand. I am doing more walking and at the end of the day it hurts so bad to walk and my back feels like it is going to break. But the next day I get up and try to do a little more. I am now driving which I couldn't do 6 months ago. I am so proud of that. There are so many things I can do now that people take for granteted(how ever it is spelled..HAHA) and it feels so good to be able to.
Again thank you.
Janice,
I'm glad that you posted this. At my 6 week appt, I went in thinking I was going to see MY surgeon, but it was a different guy. This jerk scolded me harshly for not losing enough weight. I had lost 35 lbs and was feeling on top of the world until he popped my balloon. He said..."What are you not doing? Why have you lost so little?...You should have lost at LEAST 50 lbs. by now!!" blah, blah, blah, and on and on, and on!! I felt demoralized and embarrassed. That was 4.5 months ago and it still ****** my off when I think about it.
After checking you profile I realized two things:
1: We're neighbors!! I live in Gilbert!
2: Dr. Juarez was the jerk Doctor that I saw that day!! How strange is that? I much prefer Dr. Fang's gentle approach and he is the one who performed my surgery. Maybe you could try to get in to see him next time. I finally realized that Dr. J was full of it! I would say something worse, but I don't want to get sued!! I don't know what his problem is, but I had heard all kinds of bad things about him pre-op. Believe me, you are not the first person to post about his less than stellar bed-side manner! Maybe you could find another Dr. to do your follow-up care.
Good luck to you darlin'! Don't let this over-power all of the benefits of this surgery. I can truly say first hand that I know exactly how you feel!!

Hi Janice-If he was unhappy about you then he would really not be happy with me. I am celebrating today that I am under 200 pounds for the first time in years. BUT, I have only lost 76 pounds so far and I had my surgery on July 6th. You are ahead of me! I am not getting as much exericse as I probably should either but I'm working on it. Be proud of your weight loss and celebrate the things you can do now, that you could not do before surgery. Just hang in there and move a little more each day if you can. You are doing a great job. I'm disappointed that your doctor said that to you. Everyone of us is different. He can't expect every patient to lose the same. Take Care, joyce
I agree. You are doing just great! Our numbers are about the same however I do not know what you started out. Sorry to hear that your Doc. was not supportive. I had surgery 7/12/05 and have lost about 80 lbs. My mother also had it the same day and has lost a little over 100 lbs. Mine you she started out about 380 compared to my 295.
I hope this helped some.
Hugs,
Nicole
Nicole I started out at 370. I am unable to do a lot of exercise but I am able to clean house and chase a 2 year old boy. I couldn't do these things before surgery. I could see if he was upset about maybe 20 lbs but he wanted me to have lost another 80 lbs. From what I can see from people who have written me I am about as good as everyone else give or take a few lbs. Thank you for your input. It really helps.
Janice,
I'm disgusted that your Dr. would tell ou this!! I am 6mos.
out today, and have lost 64 lbs.At all my support groups and follow ups my Dr.and Nurse stress strongly that we all loose weight differently, and that we should stick to the program we're given and the weight will come off.A lot depends on how much we have to lose and of course everyones body is different.
Hang in there and keep working your program, you're doing great!!Be sure to stay connected here for the support you need..we certainly don't need put down..haven't we felt that enough in our lives !!( by the way, I wish i had lost 79 lbs.) lol
