What the f***?
Okay...I need some input from you guys. I went to my six month appointment with my surgeon last Friday. Everything went well. My labs look great and I have lost 85% of the weight that my surgeon thought that I would lose in one year. I have lost 110 lbs. since my highest, 103 lbs. since my surgery date. That's pretty cool!
Alright...on to my frustration. I mentioned to my surgeon that I had noticed that I seemed to be on a plateau and that I was thinking of going back to yogurt, string cheese, and protein shakes for a week or two. He told me that I should not even be drinking protein shakes anymore. He feels that I should be able to get everything that I need from three square meals a day. Needless to say...I could not agree with him. I have a difficult time getting in enough protein without my shakes for supplements.
Has anyone else encountered this from their surgeon? I plan on continuing to drink my protein shakes as they help me to get in all of my protein and are low in calories, carbs, and fat.
If you guys could let me know what kind of diet your doctor has suggested for you at your six month appointment, I would appreciate it!
Just me...Jess in Wisconsin
I have not had a protein shake since I was about a month or two out of surgery. I have no problem getting my protein in (90 grams/day). I just changed what I eat for protein. I usually have a SF Protein Bar (Atkins Advantage) for breakfast, cheese for a snack, a lunch with usually some type of chicken, Beef Jerky or SF yogurt for a snack, fish, chicken, or some other meat for dinner, and a nutritional, late-night snack (usually fruit of some kind: grapes, banana, apples are my favorites). I have lost 128 lbs as of today and feel great. I know some people can't eat some foods, but you should try to get your protein without the shakes for a week and see how it goes. If you can't do it, then go back to the shakes. Great job with the lose so far and good luck in your continued journey.
I agree with some of the other posters, I love my protein shakes and have at least one a day, sometimes two. I just feel better when I drink them. As long as my calorie count is good my doctor has no problem with them. He just likes to hear that someone has found one they really like. Go for it! Your doing great!
