Just Me...Jess

Okay...I need some input from you guys. I went to my six month appointment with my surgeon last Friday. Everything went well. My labs look great and I have lost 85% of the weight that my surgeon thought that I would lose in one year. I have lost 110 lbs. since my highest, 103 lbs. since my surgery date. That's pretty cool! Alright...on to my frustration. I mentioned to my surgeon that I had noticed that I seemed to be on a plateau and that I was thinking of going back to yogurt, string cheese, and protein shakes for a week or two. He told me that I should not even be drinking protein shakes anymore. He feels that I should be able to get everything that I need from three square meals a day. Needless to say...I could not agree with him. I have a difficult time getting in enough protein without my shakes for supplements. Has anyone else encountered this from their surgeon? I plan on continuing to drink my protein shakes as they help me to get in all of my protein and are low in calories, carbs, and fat. If you guys could let me know what kind of diet your doctor has suggested for you at your six month appointment, I would appreciate it! Just me...Jess in Wisconsin

Hey Jess- Actually, I was told at my three month follow up to cut the shakes out. I do use protein bars now though if I am low on protein.

My doctor actually told me not to drink the shakes period. He wanted me to work on getting the protein from my foods. I did that and have not had any problems with my levels. Shakes can be high in calories and they don't fill you up.

My surgeon does not care as long as I get in my protein. He doesn't want me to count ANYTHING except protein. They said the calories do not matter, as long as I get in my protein. My surgeon strongly advocated the shakes. I drink the Gladiator from Smoothie King, but am not always good at drinking them. My hair is falling out in gobs, so I have increased my protein train recently. It's helped with the weight loss.
