stomach holds to much
does any one have the problem of being able to eat way more then they should be able to? I have a hard time getting "real" food down but when I find something I can eat I can eat alot, since my food is sooo limited cause I throw every thing up the few foods I can tolerate, I seem to over eat with no problems like feeling full and I dont know if it is cause Im eating garbage, but for example I eat tons of soup because I keep that down good but I can eat a large can of clam chowder with know trouble at all, I thought my stomach was the size of a grape and not able to stretch with the pouch. I can also eat a big salad from subway the ones were you can have all the sandwhich toppings put into a bowl. I eat the whole salad with spicy Italian toppings thats about all the meat I can eat because its really thin and small...just wanting to know if any one else can still eat alot...Lisa
I've notice I can eat more soups then anything else, I'm afraid to test the limits so I stay with 1/2 cup rule with everything I eat...I've gotten sick once with overeating and my pouch really hurt so I won't be trying that again.
How many meals are you eating? you might want to consult your NUT and see what he/she says..

You don't have to worry right now. If you were able to eat dense foods you would be very aware of the tiny size your pouch still is. Soups and salds pass right through your pouch hense you won't fill up sooner. If you could try something like cottage cheese or something like that you would notice you fill up very fast. I am the same way, you give me salad or soup and I can eat more than I thought. Although, I still can't get a Wendy's Mandarin Orange Chicken salad down in one sitting, it takes me through 2 meals. But you give me a few bites of BBQ Baked beans or sliced deli meat or something and I'm full almost before I enjoy the flavor. It's so nice.
All-in-all I wouldn't worry about it at this stage. You're doing great and give yourself a little test with something like cottage cheese or mashed potatos.
Hi Lisa,
This may sound strage but you may have a stricture... I was the exact same way.... anything I couldn't pulverize (sp) by chewing came right back up.. At first i thought it was fussy pouch but turned out I had a 70% restriction right under my pouch in my intestines.. I would have never thought that would be the case but I just got it dialated last week and what a difference!! A good test you can do for yourself is if you are able to take your vitamins and swallow a big pill with no problem.. I could not do this and now I can! I am really excited because I found myself leaning towards things I should not eat such as carbs like crackers and cereal because they would go down so easy.. now I can eat meats and just about anything.. well except groud beef.. still have a bit of problem with that... Good luck and keep us posted with what you find.

I have to say I go through spurts... Some days I feel like I am eating way more than I should and other days - I cannot get anything in. SOmedays I feel famished or think I need to eat and other days I force myself. I still cannot DRINK a lot of liquids other than Coffee and hot tea.
I found popcorn cleans me out and I can eat a lot of it...I was snacking on crackers for a while and changed. I thought cause I could eat a cup of popcorn it was a lot.
SOme days I can eat a whole grilled cheese and bacon and other days I cannot eat a half a ham sandwich. Soup goes down well - I usually choose Lentil soup for the protein. I add kidney beans- chick peas- diced hard boiled eggs to my salads for more protein.
I cannot drink a whole glass of water though... my pouch hates cold drinks since the surgery... Maybe cause it is winter in buffalo.. I swear if it were not for my coffee I would not get liquids. I use to love water.
Yet if I eat a little steak and mashed potatoes I am fine as long as it is small bites and chewed well.. I cannot tell what the day holds till I go through it..
Good luck-
