My grandson is in the hospital.
He was jaundiced when he was born, and his bilirubin levels kept climbing. 10 on the day he was released, then 15 the next day, then 18 the next. It was the hardest thing in the world to leave that sweet little angel laying under those lights last night to come home. My daughter is still in a lot of pain from her stitches (she ripped, no episiotomy) so she didn't stay either. My angel also has hypospadias, which, if you're interested, you can Google it. Basically, it is a malformation of his urethra/foreskin which will require surgery in the next few months.
I know this happens to a lot of people, but when it happens to you it is hard, hard, hard!!!! *sob* I love that baby so much. Here is a picture of us. (I already posted it for Nan, but just in case you missed that post....)

Michelle -
It will be alright!! It is very hard to leave them when they are that little though. Could you spend the night with him at the hospital?
When my son was born he needed hypospadias repair. He had his surgery at 10 months of age. He is now 9 and laughs at me when I told him he had surgery that young and on his penis. He thinks I am teasing him. Make sure she does the surgery around the same age!! I talked to many doctors before choising my surgeon for him and they all told me before a year of age and preferably before walking! It is not a difficult surgery, much harder on the parents.
He will be fine. My son was also very jaundice. That passed quickly enough.

Michele,
I'm sorry to hear about your grandson. I know the worry and anxiety that you are feeling. When my son was born, they took him by emergancy c-section because he was not recovering between contractions. Then he spent 3 or 4 days in the NICU for some heart and lung problems. I was so worried!!!! I was sick to my stomach that something would go wrong. Babies are so resilient! They overcome illness quicker than the rest of us. I bet you'll have him home in the next few days.
Sending you some hugs.............(((((Michele)))))

Hi sweetie,
He'll be just fine, I'm sure! It's hard as heck to leave them there and have to go home. You worry about them every moment.
My little nephew was born with jaundice and we were all nerve wracked until his levels went down - he had to come home with one of the light machines and for about 2 weeks we were all worried.
I think one or 2 of my kids have had it when they were born as well but it was so long ago!
In any case, he'll be home before you know it! And your daughter will be all healed and feeling better as well.
Keep strong and positive! We are all thinking of you and sending good thoughts and good wishes your way.
Nan
Michele,
My granddaughter was born last January, and she was six weeks premature. She spent 2 weeks in the NICU and had to do the bilirubin light for a couple of days. Now she is 11 months old, weighs 20 lbs., is speed crawling and trying to walk.
Your grandson will be fine. The best part is he won't remember any of this. He is exactly where he needs to be, so he can receive the care he needs.
We'll all be thinking about you and your family. Just think about the exciting new year you have ahead of you.
