Update on problem with eating
I posted my problem with gurgling and pain while eating a couple weeks ago and I wasn't sure then if I should keep my appt for an upper GI. I began to feel better, cancelled my appt, then felt worse again and had to wait a week for another appt to be available. During that time I think the problem resolved itself because the contrast flowed all the way through my small bowel very quickly. Two days after the test I began with pain again and was sick and vomiting through the night. I think I figured out my problem and it's all in relearning new eating habits.
We had a work Christmas lunch and with my bite of chicken was attached a chunk of chicken skin I didn't pay attention to..until it was in my mouth. You know chicken skin just doesn't chew up well and in that setting I didn't want to spit it out so forgetting about my new plumbing I swallowed it. I reverted back to eating at a normal speed and quickly was full to the place of pain and hadn't eaten much at all. The pain and needing to explode feeling worsened as the day went on and by the time I got home I threw it all up and was in excrutiating pain. Another problem was since I felt cheated not being able to eat the dessert at the restaurant when I got back to work I had two sugar free turtles and the sugar alcohols only added to the problem. I don't know why I couldn't have left well enough alone but I continued to try to eat and each attempt made me feel worse and worse.
I took it very easy the next day with food and by the end of that day felt much better. Perhaps since it's been 5 months since surgery I'm not paying close attention to bite size and chewing 30 times and making sure my food is ready for swallowing. I find it very hard to go without these holiday goodies. I won't eat them with sugar but that's where I thought the sugar free stuff was safe...but found repeatedly it's not ok with my system. Relearning 48 years of bad food habits is tough and will take quite some time. I'm trying to pay closer attention to that but I'm still so food obsessed, it's a hard thing to relearn to the place that it becomes second nature long term. I can do this though!
Just wanted to post the outcome of my predicament because ya'll were so nice to help me with trouble shooting what I should do. The other good thing is I finally lost some weight during the 3 weeks this was going on. It's amazing how much I look forward to every Monday evening when I allow myself to weigh. Boy, that never happened before.
Thanks again!
Sandy
HELLO SANDY, SORRY TO HERE THAT YOUV'E BEEN HAVING PROBLEMS WITH EATING. I'M THE TOTAL OPPESITE I CAN EAT ANYTHING AND I DON'T GET SICK. THAT WORRYS ME SOMETIMES BECAUSE I FEEL THAT IF MAYBE I WOULD GET THE DUMPING SYNDROME I WOULD STOP EATING THE THINGS THAT I SHOULD'NT. AND OF COURSE THE HOLIDAYS DON'T HELP? I WORK IN E.R. AND THERE IS ALWAYS FOOD AROUND, I DON'T EAT LIKE BEFORE BUT I FIND MYSELF TRYING LITTLE THINGS LIKE COOKIES. I DON'T EAT A WHOLE ONE BUT I DO NIBBLE. I CONSUME ABOUT 1500 TO 2000 CALORIES A DAY. I EXERSIZE 3 TIMES A WEEK AND MY JOBS IS VERY PYSHICAL I WORK 12 HOUR SHIFTS SO I KNOW THAT WITHOUT TRYING I'M LOSING CALORIES. SO WHEN I GET HARD ON MYSELF THINKING THAT I'M EATING TO MUCH, I REALLY HAVE TO TELL MYSELF THAT I'M REALLY NOT EATING TO MUCH. EVERTHING WEIGHS OUT. I'M 203 LBS AND STARTED OUT AT 290 LBS. 87 LBS GONE FOREVER WOOOOO HOOOOOO!
Cecelia, you are doing great. You've lost more than I have in less time. Way to go! Up until November I could eat anything and was always hungry. I'm glad I have to be more careful now but the re-learning process stinks! I haven't tried sugar or pasta, bread or simple carbs and I hope I can continue to stay away from them. But anything else I've tried seems to sit pretty well. It sure has been an adventure and I LOVE the smaller me!!
THANKS SANDY, I DO EAT BREAD AND STARCHY STUFF ONCE IN A WHILE I HATE THAT I CAN'T KEEP AWAY FROM IT. I JUST HAVE DRINK MORE WATER I THINK THAT MY PROBLEM. BECAUSE ONCE I DRINK THE WATER I'M SUPPOSE TWO I DON'T EAT AS MUCH. THESE PAST FEW WEEKS I HAVE'NT BEEN DRINKING ENOUGH WATER. I HAVE A 1.5 LITER RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME JUST SO THAT I REMIND MYSELF TOO DRINK.LOL TAKE CARE SANDY!
