Hi surgery friends. I've contacted my surgeon about this and am scheduled for an upper GI Monday if taking Reglan doesn't make my symptoms better but I'd like to know if any of you have experienced the same symptoms. It began with getting full faster to the place of being uncomfortable...after only a few bites which isn't normal for me. Then I noticed a gurgling in my throat after/while eating or even after drinking my protein shake. Low intestional pains and pouch area pains after eating and often times feeling nauseaus after. I thought maybe I had a stricture or something stuck but I'm told with a stricture there isn't the gurgling. I'm taking Reglan 3 times a day and yesterday thought I was feeling better but then threw up my lunch and felt miserable again after dinner. Today is better but I've only had a protein shake and some protein pudding and water. Those have gone down better. I really do not want to go through the upper GI if this will pass with the Reglan. I'd love to hear if any of you have experienced anything like this and can give me your opinion. I'm talking regularly to the doc but you all have experienced this stuff for yourselves so I'd feel better hearing your experiences. I haven't had any trouble at all since surgery so this is my first issue...rather than being able to eat a lot and not losing very fast! Thank you for your input. I sure appreciate being able to come to you for answers!

In the hospital after my surgery they gave me Reglan because they said my pouch was emptying slowly. I've read that it helps with GERD and other stomach issues.

Mandie, Reglan is a motility drug. I am taking it right now also. It has helped me a lot with nausea and stomach pain. My PCP said my own motility wasn't working yet and that is why the reglan helped me feel better. They don't recommend you take reglan for more than 12 weeks so I am hoping that I can come off of mine soon and my own system be working now. Teresa

Teresa, That's a better explanation than I got from my doctor. I understand why that might be helping me now. I am feeling better on it, I think I might just give it a few more days before jumping to the upper GI. thanks! Sandy

Sandy, Personally, I would go ahead with the upper GI, just in case. I am glad the reglan is helping you, I live with nausea and stomach pain daily and the reglan helps me to control some of it. Take care! Teresa

I also had a problem, I was taking Atigall to protect against Gall Bladder problems since I was a month out.. But I stopped about 2 weeks ago and My Doctor ( Regular Doc, Not Surgeon) put me on Nexium.. i was experiancing A burning pain in my pouch and Nausea, I was doubled over sometimes it was so bad. I thought for sure I was having a Gall Bladder attack, but the Ultra sound I took didn't show anything.. So I have been on Nexium and i feell sooo much better!.. Now, It is possiable that the Nexium is just masking the problem. I will see my Surgeon again on December 18th and discuss this with him. But, in the mean time I feel a whole lot better.. I stpped taking it for 2 days and the pain came back.. so something is up.. I was also throwing up and feeling just plain crappy for a while.. I feel for you and I hope you find an answer soon.. peace mo down 65 pounds.. from 290 to 225..
