I know some people who get away with it but they're much further out than us. I know for me, i absolutely can not drink when i eat or i will be too full and in pain and start belching for hours at a time.

I drink ~6 oz just prior to eating then I wait 1 hr after before I start again. If not I just wash out what I've eaten and become hungry again (which is bad for me)

I always wait at least a 1/2 hour before and after eating to drink. The few times I didn't the results were most unfortunate.

If I feel like I need a sip or two with my meals I have it. I really can't stand to eat without drinking anything but I do only have a few sips. You can drink all you want before eating though. The only reason they tell you to wait is so your body will have more time to absorb the protein and nutrients from the food that you eat. Since our bodies don't absorb as much nutrients anymore, drinking while eating can make the food go through faster. ~Sue 262/202

I'm with Sue on this. I have a hard time seperating the two. I have to have a sip or two after each meal just to wash the taste out of my mouth. I asked my doc and he said that this was okay to do, but only a sip. C Leigh

I get really nauseaus if I drink right after eating. A couple of times, I've needed a sip, and did not like the results at all.

Wow, I am surprised that they can eat and drink at the same time! The few times I've sipped shortly after eating was unpleasant. My program has us stop drinking a half an hour before we eat, and then we can drink an hour after we eat. (Used to be 90 minutes!) Because I was having a hard time getting all my fluids in, I was told to give myself 10 minutes after drinking before I eat. I'm getting better at getting all my water in now, though. Whew! Anyway, from all I've read, all the programs are quite different from each other when it comes to the details. My program also doesn't use protein shakes. But most others do. So I just follow my program and get support as I can from those that do. Know what I mean? Take care, Lisa

I try to wait 1/2 hour before and after eating, but if I really need to, I'll take a couple of sips in between, but only a couple. There have been a few times where I just had to drink water and I was okay with only waiting 10-15 minutes after eating ... Marlize
