What does everyone eat at a restaurant???
If it's not any place special i'll order soup, or chili.
When we go somewhere special, i'll eat get whatever i know i'd really enjoy and then i only eat a little bit of it. It doesn't cost me anymore than before surgery and i'm satisfied. Sometimes my girlfriend and i will share and that makes it a lot easier.
For my birthday a couple of weeks ago, we went to the Melting Pot (a fondue place) and i was really scared but i did great, i had a little bit of apple and veggies in the cheese fondue, two shrimps and some steak in the Beaujolais (wine and broth) fondue and i ate one of the strawberries off the plate of fruit meant to dip in the chocolate fondue (i was good and avoided the chocolate). It seemed like a ton of food for me but we went slow (fondue is like that) and i was fine. and i had a great time.
I pretty much order anything with seafood or chicken. I stay away from fried food, and sweet food. Other than that, I order what I want, make sure there is protein and eat that first.
I also will also order off the appetizer the menu a lot.
So for example, yesterday I went for italian and ordered pasta with red sauce and clams. I ate all the clams first and then had about 2 spoonfuls of spaghetti and I was full.
If I go to a deli, I order a tuna salad and leave the bread over. If I go for japanese, I order sashimi instead of sushi or just grilled fish.
Just order well-- Stay away from cream sauce, fried food. I have a hard time eating meat, so I don't order that.
Went ot Joe's Crab Shack yesterday and had Broiled Shrimp, Shrimp Scampi, Broiled Fish Filets and Sea Scallops all seasoned with Old Bay. Has a salad on the side with blue cheese and steamed brocooli w/ carrots. Need less to say I bought one plate, more than enough for the wife and I with leftovers for days
Chili, soups, anything broiled or baked.
0 pasta, rice, bread or potatoes ever.
Whatever sounds good or should I say whatever sounds the least bad because I often don't have much appetite. Today, we went to lunch at Chili's (it's our first major food chain restaurant up here in the Fairbanks area not counting the "fast food" chains). I had a side salad and broccoli & cheddar soup. Didn't eat much of either one - just enough to satisfy me. I have to study the menu because so much doesn't sound good anymore (and it's not because foods upset my stomach or cause dumping because 99% don't give me any problems - just a loss of appetite).
Elizabeth,
Sometimes I travel for work, so I'm constantly finding myself in this situation. It's hard to go wrong with soup, especially if you are with people who don't know about your surgery. It always looks like you ate a ton. I also tolerate salads well, so I'll go for the Cobb salad. It had tons of protein, and it reduces down to "nothing" in your stomach, so you can eat a lot without lots of calories.
