Michele, I am like you...
Michele,
I am like you, for the last two days I just don't want any food and have to make myself eat. before that I wanted something occasionaly but never very often. I wonder if we are going through some sort of phase late that the rest have already gone through. I want my appitate to pick up some because otherwise I might under eat. My problems are till continuing. I think I have way too much synthroid in my system. I started having trouble breathing and some chest pain the last few days and I am going this morning for some breathing test and ABG's (ouch). I hope that it is nothing more than my synthroid. does anybody know how long it takes to exit the system. I was on half dose last week and none this week and thought it would be better by now. I have been a slow loser until this started this week and all of the sudden I am losing too fast. I have lost like 7 or 8 pounds in the last few days. all the more reason I think I have an overdose of synthroid. My TSH was almost nothing like it was when I had graves disease. I have been so frustrated and upset these last few weeks that I even contacted my surgeon about a reversal. His response was he wanted me to come into the office and discuss this in great detail, which I will. but I have got to start feeling better soon or that may be my only option.
sorry to carry on, you are all such good listeners!
How are you feeling Michele, much better I hope!
teresa
Andrea,
Thanks for the response, it's nice to know others are thinking about you and concerned about you if if you are a total stranger. I am seeing my PCP today about my TSH, I hope she has some good suggestions. My Pulmonary function test were not too bad, just a little on the low side this morning so that is a good thing. ABG's were the same way. I hope and pray to get this all figured out soon, I am risking my job and marriage being so sick all of the time.
Thanks again!
Teresa
Teresa ... I just HAD to reply to you because like you, I too have Graves Disease (I say HAVE because once you have it you ALWAYS have it ... it is an auto-immune disease that stays with you forever ... sometimes more active than others). Did you have your thyroid 'nuked' ... is that why you are now on synthroid? I know for a fact that any changes in thyroid medication can take from 4-6 weeks to adjust in your system. I did not have my thyroid 'nuked' ... my endocrinologist opted instead to keep me on 5mg a day of Tapazole and leave my thyroid a little hyperactive (it has worked for me for almost 2 years now). I also have nodules on both sides of my thyroid and, believe it or not ... they have begun to shrink since my WLS (as proven by a thyroid ultrasound done last month). Go figure!? I have been having a lot of trouble eating too but after persevering and teaching myself to DRINK, DRINK, DRINK up to 15 minutes before eating and then drinking NOTHING until 1 full hour after eating ... my pouch has settled down and allows me to try new things with no problems most of the time. Please think long and hard about reversing your procedure ... remember why you had this surgery in the first place. Are your goals and dreams still the same? If they are ... then it will probably NOT make you happy to reverse those goals and dreams. I wish you well and pray that things will get better for you soon.
Best regards ... Jenny (aka Johanna)
Hi Jenny,
Yes, I did get nuked! I tried the tapazole but broke out in connecting hives, so I couldn't take the medicine. I have been a tad low(high) on my synthroid for a couple of years now, but this is the first time it has bottomed out and I am having the same symptoms I was when they first diagnosied me, hence my reason for thinking it is my synthroid causing some if not all of my problems. I found out that even the abd pain and nausea I was having can be caused from too much synthroid.
I don't really want to reverse my procedure, but if that is they only thing they can do to make me feel better, I will make it my very last choice. I was and sometimes still do have abd pain and nausea, my PCP put me on reglan which has helped a lot. Then this pops up almost the same day I start feeling better from the reglan.....I get no breaks! I am just totaly frutrasted and majorly depressed. My pcp also started me on buspar for anxiety but I am not so sure this is going to work, it causes me about an hour of sleepiness, I work full time and don't know how I will take this twice a day when I can't afford to be that sleepy. I am not an anxious person usually but I have not felt good since my surgery 4 months ago and it is really taking a toll on my mental and physical health.
I appreciate the prayers...more than you will ever know! Thanks for responding!
I hope you keep doing great with your tapazole!!
Teresa
Teresa,
I am also a synthroid user. I had nodules on my thyroid and had one side removed. I have heard that there are many side effects when your thyroid meds are not regulated properly. Maybe you should try an endocronoligist (SP?) They are the gland specialists.
I am so sorry you are having negative health issues and pray you find some solutions soon.
Hugs
Pam
Oh Teresa, I am so sad to hear that you are still suffering so much. I wish I could do something to help.
I shouldn't even say this- but I have been doing a lot better. No pain for quite a while, although I get the nausea pretty often. I don't like it but I can deal with it. And I have been losing like crazy too. I do not know what is up with that.
I've never had to take Synthroid so I know nothing about that- but I think seeing an endocrinologist (sp?) is a great idea. Sometimes the specialists can figure things out.
Wishing you the very best, and I hope you don't have to get a reversal. I want you to feel how everyone else is feeling..... it is so not fair that you are not. Love and hugs as always...
Michele
Teresa,
I am sorry you are having trouble. Two things- thyroid out of whack- weight loss and loss of appetite... Surgery or thyroid?
This will be a period for adjustment. I am sure they will get to the bottom of it. I had to reduce all my meds for High blood pressure- water pills etc... It was a difficult time for me I was scared . Finally regulated and off for good.
I know thyroid is different. My sister had problems with the generic meds.. Had to write to ins comp to get the non generic and she is doing better. Good luck keep us up to date.
