Hi Janice and all my July friends This is a great post. I have days where I feel like I am over eating and then days where I foget to eat. I always try to concentrate first of drinking than on protein and once I have gotten past getting those kinds of things in I am usually not hungry anymore. When I crave sweets I have a protein bar. Still afraid to try sugar. I have been drinking more coffee than usual and I think it is has been curbing my appetite. I do not drink decaf. When I am woken by my dog to let him out I drink water while waiting if I am hungry I will drink water and that usually works. I chew gum sometimes that help. I snack on Almonds and that is getting a bit addicting. I am fearing the holidays. I am hoping that all the goodies will not get to me. I was able to go through Halloween without eating any candty which is still in bowls at my house. I really try to keep my carbs to a bear minimum because once I start with a little carbs I crave more. All the carbs I eat come from veges and the small amount of Carb Countdown milk I put in my coffee. You have all done an awesome job sometimes perhaps we need to just redirect and pick different foods. I wish everyone good luck on the grazing hugs Pam

Pick and pack different foods. If I don't have the stuff in my desk at work I won't eat them so that solves my problem. Take cheese, yogurt and protein bars (which are already there). I forgot about carbs making you crave more. I did the protein thing very well for 3 years and I just need to get back in that mode. Thank you for responding.

First of all let me say ... I NEVER FORGET TO EAT!! Sometimes I'm just not hungry, or something doesnt look appealing so I dont want it, but I dont forget!! I eat here and there too cuz I'll eat something, then just a little while later I'll want something else, but dont know what, or dont have what I really want so snack on something that's available. Some days I eat ALOT every 1-2 hours, like Sunday I consumed probably about 1200 calories, but this whole week I've barely been hitting the 700 mark just grazing, and taking bites here and there. I think there are just days that you are really hungry and eat alot ... and others that you are not really hungry. Your doing great and by the sounds of it are going through stages like the rest of us!! Keep up the good job!!

Thank you so much, I'm so glad I'm not the only one. I actually wrote down everything I "grazed" on the last few days and I wasn't as disappointed in myself as I was last night. I need to let myself off the hook a little. Just a little. I am really not eating bad things, just often which we need to do to get in enough calories a day and avoid starvation mode. Thanks again Marlize, you are doing awesome too.

Thanks for your honest comments about grazing. I am concerned also that I can eat snack crackers, sugar free deserts, pretzels, popcorn and other snack foods so much easier than meal foods. When I sit down to a meal a couple of bites and I feel full and start sneezing. But I can sit and graze on snack crackers and the like. I know this is not changing my eating habits and this really concerns me. I guess I need to try grazing on a bowl of green beans. The only protein I seem to feel confortable with is cheese and (uck) the protein drinks. If I sip them I don't have to run to bathroom and I don't they go right through. I'm beginning to think my body has a problem with protein. Sure hope I start to be able to eat other foods soon. Again Thanks To All Of You For Participating In This Site, I Read Comments Everyday! Janice, I had my surgery July 14, 2005. About three weeks ago, I started snacking. It amazed me that I would go through so much and start doing this to myself. I haven't been keeping an actual account of calories and protein. Maybe we can keep each other accountable by posting what we eat each night. Sonya Sumrall

Thank you Sonya, We're almost surgery twins. It is amazing isn't it? Especially since I will be paying for this surgery for a long time. (Home equity loan). I did go over (honestly) what I ate yesterday with my surgeon's nurse last night at support group and she said we need to eat 6 times a day and sometimes that feels like grazing. I am going to stop taking anything BUT protein stuff to work on Monday. I do like the idea of keeping each other accountable. I did much better today. The only bad thing I had was about 7 or 8 wheat thins and a little kettle corn tonight after 1 1/2 meatballs the size of golf balls. The popcorn is a no-no I know but I won't be one of those people that refuse to enjoy anything for fear of what it will do to me, I refuse to live like that. I will just keep it under control. How did you do today?

I had a protein drink for breakfast, a protein bar for snack, soup for lunch, pimento and cheese for snack, and for supper I had an omlet. I think your nutrionist is right. Once I write down everything I have eaten, it does not sound like much. I feel like all I do is eat. Thanks for the insight. Sonya
