Dumping, anyone??
Hi,
I'm new here. I didn't even know about this site until last week. I'm excited to find this forum.
I have a question for all of you. I do not dump, do you? Strange as it may sound, I was looking forward to having this aversion to keep me on track, however, I experience no signs of dumping with sweets or fats.
Anyone else have this problem?
Halloween was tough to get through, I finally told my 7 year old son that he had one more day to finish his halloween candy and then it was going in the trash. I caught him sitting in the corner, empty wrappers all around him with chocolate stains on his shirt. He looked like a junkie, chocolate-his drug of choice!

I do dump to some degree. I can't eat hardly any starches -potatoes, french fries, pasta without getting a really rapid heart rate. I can eat 1 cookie, but 2 will give me the really uncomfortable rapid heart rate. I have never had the other symptoms but would imagine I would if I were to try to binge on the above items. So this has kept me in line with my white stuff and sugars, at least keep them to a very minimum. I have been staying pretty sick from motility problems so the last thing I need to do is add sugars and dumping. Glad to hear they don't make you sick.
Welcome and take care

Nope. I dump off of sugar alcohols, but not real sugar. I'm kinda disappointed too as I was a sugar FIEND. I am a cake decorator, and I was so hoping that cake would make me sick. Well, I haven't even baked a cake since my surgery- I'm afraid to! But I don't think it will make me sick because sugar doesn't bother me. I haven't pushed it though, most I've had is 2 miniature Hershey's chocolates at one time.
C Leigh ~ I don't really dump on anything. Although lately, a few things (brownie and cookie - not eaten at the same time) have started making me have an "ugh" feeling. I'm pretty fortunate that I have almost lost my craving for sweets so it's rare that I even want any.
I have a friend who had the surgery 2 years ago (Oct 2003). She told me that she has more trouble now at 2 years out than she did in the months just after surgery so maybe there's hope that sugar will someday cause you to dump. I too was one of those hoping to have the dumping syndrome from all the "bad" foods.
Since I don't care for sweets much anymore, Halloween was easy for me. I even kept a giant bowl of chocolates on my desk at work. Out of the probably 10 -15 bags of miniature chocolates that went into that bowl, I ate only 1 piece. My downfall is the salty stuff - chips and popcorn.

I'm not dumping either. Milk makes me feel a little ill, so I stay away from it, Sorbitol makes me sick, but it did before surgery. I have eaten cookies, cookie dough, a brownie, kitkat, etc etc... Boy - this sounds like confession time. Please know that if I eat it, it is literally a bite or two - not the entire thing.
I'll add that reeses PB cups have protein in them! WOOHOO! LOL
Oh - this is sad. Good thing is I can't even eat one of them without being absolutely stuffed. I know that won't last forever either though. I'm hoping to get the dumping syndrome eventually. I had it earlier, but it's gone away now.

Well, as a DSer, I do not have dumping as a side effect. I will say that milk does not agree with me so I stay away from it, although I have no problems with cheese or yogurt, thank goodness.
I guess the best you can do is make good choices, right?
lots of luck,
Sharon
The only thing that really makes me dump is milk. The first week home from surgery i drank 2% milk without a problem. Them i stopped drinking it for a while. now when I have it, i feel ill, my heart starts racing and I feel dizzy. Sugar does not effect me at all. Sugar alcohols either. I ate a few peices of laffy taffy and a kit kat on halloween. I try not to eat anything with more than 12 grams of sugar in it. I do however have juice that is no sugar added with 18 grams of sugar in it that i do not dump on at all. the reason i know sugar alcohols dont effect me is because of those dollar bags of sugar free candy from the dollar tree. they are loaded with it. I didnt know until i ate 3 peices one night when i was sitting here reading about someones experiance with sugar alcohol, and I sat here all night waiting for something to happen but nothing ever did. I have sipped a can of nestea on more than one occasion and didnt dump. it has 33 grams in it. Of course the sipping occured over an hour and a half. I am still deathly afraid to try anything with more sugar. I envy the unknown and dont wish to challenge it. At first I thought that the sugar content in the 2% milk was making me ill, but I have since switched to Simply Smart and it has the same sugar content and I have no problems drinking it. I am still pondering what in the milk bothers me, maybe the lactose or maybe the fat...i dont know. I also get the shakes when i drink the CIB shakes. then again i have only drank them with the 2% not the Simply Smart. I am so confused i just stay away from the crap, lol. I did not like that feeling at all and dont wish to feel it again.
