I shouldn't be sad, but ...
Okay, so I've posted before how I haven't lost anything ... but its now more than 4 weeks and I'm starting to get really frustrated and sad.
I dont know what I'm doing wrong. The first week I stalled, then the second and third week I was up and down 4lbs, now this week I havent lost anything and I'm still only down 60lbs. I started exercising this week in hopes that it would kick-start my weightloss, weighted this morning and ... nothing !!!! Not even 1lbs!!
I get in about 100g of protein, stay under 1000 calories, get in all my water and vitamins, and eat healthy for the most part!! Today I had some soup and the rest of the day I'm only going to do liquids. A nutrionist friend suggested that I lower my calories to 600 to loose weight??
What am I doing wrong or what am I not doing?? Any advice from you fast loosers would be nice!!!!

Marlize,
We both had surgury on the same day and I am only down 66 lbs, just a few more than you so thats not bad, I spoke w/ my surgeon and he says you start slowing down because the body says enough right now and tries to recoup he said it slows dow to 1-2 lbs every week or so, I think going lower on your calories is just going to make your body think its in starvation, I'm not sure of all the logistics of being on a plateu, I think 1-2lbs every other week or so is good, but maybe talk to the dietician in the program or get a consult from your primary md to hospital nutrionist they can be real helpful, keep your head up and hang in there, I think were doing just fine, But I know it can be frustrating

Well, I had my surgery before you, and I've "only" lost 56 pounds but I'm happy with it. I'm not saying you shouldn't be down about it, it is what it is. Maybe you should just stay away from the scale for a while? It's evil!!
You are doing everything right. Protein is your body's building blocks. You need it to build muscle. You are reshaping your body and that takes longer than just losing lots of fat quickly. You are going to get there, and these days will be just a distant memory- and you'll look back and say "Ahhhh, what was I so worried about???" Honestly! It will happen!!! I don't recommend going below 600 or even 1,000 calories a day- that is NOT going to help- except to make you weak and sick.
I can guarantee you also that the "fast" losers are not going to be able to offer much advice either because THEY don't know why their bodies are losing so quickly- they just are. So, it's no magical ingredient, it's not even what you are doing at this point! Unless you totally went off the plan and started eating chips and ice cream and pasta every night by the gallon, you will NOT fail. Chin up girl! You're doing FINE!!!!
Hi Marlize,
I know what you are feeling. I had been stuck for 3-4 weeks. I would loose a pound and then just stay there. Finally in the last 2 days the scale has started to move. THERE IS HOPE! I really think my body needed some time to adjust. Now that it has things are moving along. Keep in mind that you will loose more. You know your body isn't done .. it's just resting.
I had surgery 2 days after you and have only lost 58 pounds. I get really frustrated sometimes but I know it will happen. I am glad some days because I think about how my skin will have a little time to catch up.
Good luck!

Marlize-
I know how you feel- I have been stalled for three weeks now. Don't starve yourself, your body go into famine mode-- that's probably why most of us are here now-- we did this to ourselves years ago.
My advice is keep going to the gym-- You only just started. It takes your body 2-3 weeks before it will react.... It can actually be misleading--If you are building muscle, you may stay the same or gain weight, but your body is healthier.
Take your measurements-- maybe you've lost inches...
Hang in there sweetie.
Lots of hugs,
Andrea

Marlize,
I just found this forum, so I am new here. I hope to get to know all of you better.
It's funny, I'm having the exact problem!!!
I just read through the replies and there seems to be a pattern. I have lost 60 pounds so far and I've been on stall for 2-3 weeks now. I keep gaining and losing the same 3 lbs!!! Aghhhhhhhhhhh!!
I wanted so badly to have lost 75 before I see all of my family for Thanksgiving, but it looks like it wont be happening. That saddens me. I have been fighting for every pound lately. I wish I knew what we weren't doing correctly. I think I'll visit the june, 2005 forum and see if these folks who are a month ahead of us have broken the plateau that so many of us 7-2005'ers are currently on.
Please excuse me, I have a protein shake calling my name and I must answer it's call,

Thank you everyone so much for all your support and advice. I know I shouldnt even get on the scale cuz this is what's causing all this heartache ... but its hard not to. I tell myself, go with how you feel, which I feel really good, and with how your clothes feel, which is feeling loose and looking so much better ... but its easier said than done.
Last night after eating and with all my clothes on, I got on the scale and it said I was almost 256, this morning, I'm back up to 260 ... this must be water weight, bu****er from where, I didnt drink anything after I weighed and went to bed ... my body is weird!!!
I'm just keep on eating healthy, keep going to the gym and try not to weight in!! I might actually give my scale to a friend to take home with and thank goodness I dont have money to buy a new one!!
Thanks again all of you for your wonderful support ... I dont know what I would have done without this site!

The damn scale is our ENEMY. Take your measurements. The inches are probably coming off. My damn scale moves every 2-3 weeks. I know it is frustrating. Hang in there it WILL come off. The excercise will help a lot. I have reduced my intake-- not hungry- cannot get it down and I have been unable to excercise because I fell and hurt my knee.
It does come off. Your body needs to catch up. I went almost 16 days before the scale moved then it was 6 lbs it moved.
Let me know when that happens to you- I promise it will...
Marlize-
I think this is SO normal. I have talked to my MIL and SIL who both had the surgery over 1 1/2 years ago. THey had this huge plateau around this same time.
I have the same surgery date. I have actually gained 2 lbs this week. But I think this is just what your body needs to do. It just needs a chance to catch up.
I have heard that sometimes changing what you are doing- Eat more, eat less, excersise more, or get more liquids will make things start to move.
But 60 Lbs is great! Don't complain. It's more than I have lost!!!!
If you are feeling down....take your measurments! I am sure they are changing. Sometimes it's during these periods when you aren't loosing that you suddenly loose a clothing size.
Your doing great!!!
