Hi Guys, Got my labs back. showed I was a little dehydrated and most of my liver functions were high, this is normal, right? everything else was the very low normal (magnesium, protein). I do not have my b12 yet, but with taking 2 sublingals everyday, would not think that would be bad. I don't think she did my iron, didn't see it so I will make sure that is done on my next set of labs. my cholesterol was 179 and my blood sugar was 89. Anybody think my liver functions could be why I keep having the belly pain and nausea? The reglan my pcp started me on is helping a lot. I still don't have much energy but my stomach and nausea are a lot better with this medication. Oh yeah...for those of you who take synthroid. Very interesting...my tsh is showing me hyperthyroid again, guess it's time to lower the dose althougth this really surprises me since I don't have a thyroid after radiation??? All comments/advice appreciated! Teresa

I've been taking Aciphex every day, which is the same class of drug as Reglan- and I swear Teresa- it was the acid causing my pain. I would only admit it to you- because how the hell can you feel so bad as to go to the ER from ACID PAINS??? Well, it WAS truly horrible- but it's way better now. That's my take on things! But what do I know? *sigh*

Michele, My doc said I just didn't have my motility back in my pouch and intestines and that is why I was staying so sick and why the reglan helps. the reglan provides the motility...why wouldn't my surgeon see this and help with this medication, i asked him for something specificy like this and he said nothing existed. I am getting much more after care from my PCP than I am my surgeon. He is a very good surgeon, but boy does his office suck with post op follow up. ARgh! Maybe there is hope for me after all!! LOL I won't count all my chickens until they hatch..just not yet....! Thanks for always listening and responding to my post, you are an Take care! Teresa

My liver functions were very high before WLS-- alot of us have a fatty liver when we go in for surgery. Not sure why it would be high now though-- Are you taking too much Tylenol? Are you on a statin for cholesterol? If you get cramping in your arms or legs, call your PCP immediately! You definitely should have your iron checked. Mine was low and that was part of the reason I felt so sluggish. Finally, as you lose weight you need less synthroid-- It is really a weight ratio to determine what your dose is. Not sure why, but an endorcrinologist I saw explained it to me. Congrats on the cholesterol and blood sugar...... cheers, Andrea

Just wanted to let you know that my tsh level dropped dramatically after surgery and they cut my thyroid medicine down. I'm feeling much better now. Your thyroid can affect so many things particularly energy level. Best of luck to you!! Jo

Hi Teresa~ I actually work for a Dr's office and like you my liver functions test was elevated. It wasn't bad, it was at 53 and the high end of normal for that test is 33. However my diabetic husband who is also on lipitor is almost always over 100, which is typical for diabetics and pt's on lipitor. I had never had a problem with my liver function even when I was on medication for my seizure disorder. (these medications tend to make your liver function go up) So when mine came back high this time I wigged out. Although my surgen was not worried, I was. So I asked one of the dr's that I work for why this would happen now that I have lost so much weight and I am off my seizure medication. She said that there were a few reasons. 1 being if you are hep positive, which I am not, 2 if you are on medications that cause it, which I am not and 3rd being that if you have had WLS and you are not getting enough protein then your body starts pulling it from your skeleton and thus making it hard on your liver as your system has to filter it through your liver. So this would cause a rise in your liver function test. I called my surgen just to be sure and he said the exact same thing. So long story short........really pay attention to how much protein that you are getting in and make sure you are getting at least 60-90 gm per day!!! Hope this helps you!! Grace

Grace, Thanks for the response, that helps a lot. My doc said to get 60 a day, been trying to do that without a whole lot of protein supplementation, but I will try getting more. I really appreciate the info, kinda had me worried! Teresa
