Birth Control Shots (Depo)
Okay, so I'm really starting to get frustrated with my weight loss. First I was on a stall for more than two weeks, then I lost 4lbs, but then I pick it up again ... same thing for the past week or more!!!??
I have started to introduce new foods into my diet, but I'm so constipated I had to go to the doctor to get something. Then one of my friends here on OH mentioned that it might be the depo shot I started to get in September ... my hormones are out of wack and I need to adjust.
What do you guys think ... I cant pinpoint what is going on!
HELP!!!
My whole body was in revolt from the weight loss--- I got stuck in a "time of month" for the WHOLE MONTH. My OBGYN said that depo may not be an option because it puts you at risk for bone density loss which is already a risk with a RNY-- He also said the patch is OK if your under 180pounds..., but since I am not there yet, he ended up switching me to a norvo ring.
I was on depo for 2 years without a hitch-- I gained weight before I went on it, and after too. Can't tell you if it was the shot or me.
Hang in there.
I should have done more research!! Got my shot last week, but I'm stopping it right away, although I will feel the effects until 6-8 months after last shot! Please read this if you are thinking of taking this form of Birth Control ...

Going Off Depo
The book Contraceptive Technology says: "It is not possible to discontinue Depo Provera immediately. Weight gain, depression, breast tenderness, allergic reactions, and menstrual irregularities may continue until Depo Provera is cleared from a woman's body, about 6 to 8 months after her last injection. After discontinuing Depo Provera, women may also have a 6 to 12 month delay in return of fertility."
