A question
Hi my fellow Julyers,
I posted this in the main forum, but wanted your advise here. Im worried about my calorie intake and my carbs.... I havent lost any weight in 2 weeks and w/ my ability to eat up to a cup of food now... I worry about my weightloss....
Hi Folks,
I have a question. I am 3 months out and Ive been keeping track of everything I eat on Fitday. I have a hard time tolerating meat, eggs, or cheese very well... so the bulk of my carb filled calories come from a 12oz milk/protien shake, beans, nuts, peanut butter, south beach meal replacement bar ( usually one a day broken up into 3 snacks) , and some whole wheat bread ( usually only 1 slice - the really thing whole wheat bread by PF). I am starting to feel hungry again and can eat about a cup of soft food ( soup, gumbo, yougurt).
The problem is that if I get my 80g of protein in, I end up consuming around 900 calories & I am also consuming about 80 g of carbs ... Do you think this will slow my weight loss ?
I realize everyone is different... but those of you *****lied on dairy and beans for most of yoru protein... how did your weightloss go ? Is 900 calories at 12 weeks too much ???
Any advise is welcome.
Thanks~ Aly

Hi alicia, your not the only one that has that problem. I have that same problem, There are days that I can do really good then there's days that I can eat more then usual. but? i know that when I drink and eat my protein it helps my food intake. but? I exersize everyday. so, I don't know if its the exersizing thats making me more hungry.I could easily eat about 1200 calories a day. some days less. I had my surgery on the 12th of july lost a total of 65 lbs already.I'm hoping that I lose another 15 before Thanksgiving. I could honestly say that the exersizing has helped me so much!
Are you exercising? I know the more walking I do the hungrier I am, and some days I just am plain more hungry than others....I think one of the most important things to try and do is make sure you are eating the 6 small meals a day...I know the days that I make sure I eat a little something every few hours it seems like I feel better and lose weight at a more consistant level....Of course though right now I am coming off of a month long plateau myself so we'll see what happens.

P.S. How much weight have you lost so far?
Aly,
I think you are doing just fine. You're calorie intake is impressive. I wouldn't worry too much about anything, but as you can tolerate it, try to eat more meat. Don't give up on it. I really don't know much about the carb count, seems a little high for what you are eating. Have you tried the carb countdown milk? It's pretty good. I'd see if there wasn't a way to cut them back just a little bit.

You all are probably not gonna like my answer at all but here it goes.
80 grams of carbs is very high in my uneducated opinion. I think that many carbs slow down weight loss. Your protein intake is great. The protein burns the fat. If you look on fitday.com it will also tell you if you are burning the calories.
I also can not tolerate meat or turkey. I do not eat bread, yogurt beans or peanut butter. (I am not saying they are bad I just do not eat them)
I eat almonds or soy nuts they are high in protein and a great snack.
I drink either carb countdown or Mootopia milk. Lower in carbs higher in protein. My total calorie intake is probably only 600 a day--- I am trying to get that up. That is with 3 protein shakes or drinks a day. ( I get 80g just from that) My intake on protein these days has been over 100. It has speed my weight loss up.
Most of my carbs come from vegetables. I think my carb intake is about 25g. That is where I try to keep it I can eat salad like there is no tomorrow.
Do you like fish? That is high in protein no carbs and low in fat too.
I find that the protein bars also very high in carbs which I only eat every now and again but really limit myself.
I am not an expert at all. I keep trying different things and hope they work. My surgeon does not even allow protein supplements at all. I have head some major dental problems and have not been able to eat much so I had to do something. His diet is lean meats (1-2 0z per servering) and vegetables and that is it. If you follow his diet you will lose real fast but I can not eat that much 3 meals a day.
I hope my 2 1/2 cents worth helped a little.

I appreicate your responses . I will maybe try the carb countdown milk, but I think I checked the labels and it wasnt that huge of a difference from skim milk ( maybe Im wrong). I thought reg. milk had more protein??? Maybe not. Anyone have the nutrition info on it ??
I can eat some shellfish & a few bites of very tender steak( maybe 2 shrimp & a few tbsp of crab tops- 1 oz of steak) but that is literally the only meat I can eat... and obviously thats not much protein. I cant stand canned tuna ( an aversion even before WLS) and I cant seem to even eat canned chicken . I got sick off of some baked chicken, so I think thats the turn off there . Im not sure what the deal is ??? Cheese & eggs leave me feeling nausiated too... IT really sucks....
So I guess its a choice between getting my protein in or cutting down my carbs. I dont eat pasta, rice, and only thin sliced low carb bread ( 7 carbs maybe 2-3 times a week- something to put my peanut butter on). The rest is beans, limited amount of nuts( few tbsp - they make me nausiated too) & peanut butter, yougurt, veggies, & fruit.
I work out at Bally's and do 2 days of either step or low impact aerbics & 2 days of the crosstraining eliptical machine for 30 minutes ( so 4 days of cardio) & 3 days of power flex ( class using weights to tone the body). So I know Im getting in LOTS of exercise.
Not sure what Im gonna do... I have my check up on the 19th of Nov. I will see what she says. I do know this platau sucks.
THanks for responding guys & thanks for listening

Here is the website for carb countdown. It has less calories but more fat unless you drink the fat free which I personally do not like.
Maybe for you with all that excercising the amount of carbs is not that bad. I will tell you though the more I excercise the slower I lose in pounds but the more I lose in inches. So even if the scale is slow check out how many inches are coming off.
