Do you regret having OPEN RNY??
Great Question!
I wanted open RNY! I wanted no chance for mistakes or slips with instruments. This was a tough decision because I was able on occassion many years back to show the mid drift off. However, I wanted my surgeon to be able to see and feel exactly what he was doing.
NOW - I have a scar!... When I GET ABDOMINAL 6 packs ( of which I hope to have some day).... The scar will enhance the definition. For now it is so THIN the scar line ( will post a pic of it). I massaged it after surgery. I started with warm moise compresses and then massaged Vitamin E oil on it- from the beginning to get the swelling down! Now I use PREP H to reduce the width. It is still "red" at sight but the width is wonderful. I did not have staples so I do not have any of the marks out side the initial cut line. I think with a TAN it will blend in and not be so apparent.
Pattiann,
That's my doc told me that its the safest method, but I've heard so many success stories on the lap too soooo ...
I guess I didnt expect my scar to turn out so ugly and its bothering me. I wanted it to be really thin too (like some pics I saw here on OH), but it turned out thick and big!
I think I'm going to go buy some PREP H to to help with the width. Thanks for the idea. The scar treatment and vitamin E oil I've been putting on doesnt seem to have been helping as much.
Thanks Pattiann!

I had laparoscopic RNY but I really researched first to find the best qualified surgeon to do my surgery because I knew from the get go that I didn't want the open procedure. As my surgeon said, you're better off having the open surgery if the surgeon you choose is not experienced enough to do the lap. You certainly wouldn't want a surgeon who just went off to some seminar to learn the lap procedure on a pig and become his first victim. I have six small incisions, the largest being 1/2 inch. Three of them are almost completely gone now. You may want to try using Mederma which you can get at most pharmacies over the counter on your scar. You apply it 4 times a day and it's actually made from onions! It does help though.
