You all know about my husband John having WLS on July 18th and he is a diebetic too. The doctor told him to STOP all meds concerning that and he did. He went to the MD and he told him to go back on it and to keep a journel and record of his sugar. Latley it has been way up there and he is back to taking his insulin again and he (WE) don't do sugar. Can anyone give me some advice on this or if you personally are going through it or has. Thank you. Cheri

My surgeon said that there is a 85% cure rate for Type II. How high is high???? Also, is he overdoing the carbs (crackers, bagels etc.?). I'd talk to the surgeon and ask what are the outcomes? Also ask your MD if he/she thinks that this could be a diet controlled thing in the future. It just might take a bit more time or weight loss. Best of luck to you and John! I am sending you lots of positive thoughts! Cheers- Andrea

Andrea John's sugar will go up to 274 some times but mostly it's around 200 or so. I watch what he eats too. He really doesn't eat too much anyway so it's not that. I think your right about losing a bit more weight. We'll talk to our doc on Friday and I'll let you know the outcome. Thanks Cheri

Hi Julie, I can't help you out, but you may want to post this on the main board so it gets more attention. I do know there are folks post surgery that are still on insulin. Good luck.

Its really really important to control your blood sugar. The best way to do that is to cut back on carbs (and sugar) - but carbs are the culprit! Make sure you read every label and only eat something if it is less than 15 -20 grams of carbs per serving per meal. This will help regulate your insulin levels. Walking and exercise are also very important for diabetics, and to bring down high blood sugar levels. The only thing outside of food (high carb/bad carb food that is, that will bring up sugar levels are stress, sickness or being totally sedentary. I've been diabetic for a long time and have only recently been able to control my sugar after this surgery. I unfortunately lost a lot of nerves and strength (due to diabetic neuropathy) in my left leg and left arm becauase I couldn't control it. This can never be fixed and I'll always regret it because I can never run, for example, again. I wish you luck! It's pretty important to take care of it now!

Hi, thanks so much for that information. You have been very helpful. I will check his food chart and see if he has been eating to many carbs. I'll also start to read things more carefully. Also John hadsn't been feeling very good latley and we are both stressed out because of the kids. Also what is sedentary? Thanks again, Cheri

Cheri I also am diabetic Type 2 and have been in remission since surgery. What type is you husband? I still go to the diabetic doctor to get checked regularly as this disease is very serious. Does your hubby see a specialist for his Diabetes? John is very lucky to have such a caring wife as you to get on the boards and ask questions. There is so much info about the disease. I think there is even a member interest board about Diabetes. Many things cause high blood sugar. I hope this helped a little Hoping your hubby feels better. Hugs Pam
