I know we had a thread on this recently and us slow losers need to hang in there and be patient. But, has anyone ever heard of this surgery not working where someone stops at thirty or forty pounds? I keep telling others we will get there but today I got on the scale and it went up a pound or two and I am stressing. I am not eating a lot and it is under 1200 cals a day. Help! I need to know if it actually does stop on some. Pam 230/202/?? RNY 07/20/2005

Hey One Up!! Each and everyone of us are different and will lose the weight differently. You have to remember that. Don't compare yourself with anyone, OK? I had my surgery on July 6th and lost 63 lbs. so far and my hubby had his on July 18th and he's lost over 80 lbs. We both pretty much eat the same thing too!! He's losing alot faster than me and that's ok but I'm doing it slow. Actually if you continue to keep losing weekly and slowly you won't have alot of excess skin hanging around. The faster you lose the more skin you'll have!!! YUK Don't be so hard on yourself, it'll come off. Also maybe you should consider only eating 800 calories aday instead of 1200. Just try it. Drink, drink, drink too. Cheri

Hi Cheri, Thanks for the encouragement. I don't eat 1200 a day; I just used that as a number because I knew all my days were under that. Usually it is about 800 to 900. Always under 1000. I use fitday to keep up. Maybe I forget to write stuff down sometimes, I dont know, I just know I have reached my point. I have tried to encourage others and say we will start losing soon and we will get there but now I am starting to feel like, hey, maybe I wont get there ever. You've done wonderful. I know your husband has lost more but still you are at 63 pounds which is probably more than most that had the surgery in July. Oh....what I would give to be at 63 down!! Enjoy!!!! Thanks again, Pam

Pam, This surgery is going to work! I came home from my final hospital stay and lost 25 pounds in 2 days.....then NOTHING.....nothing.....nothing. Finally a week later suddenly I was under 200 pounds...then nothing, nothing, nothing. When I finally reached 191-193 I stayed there FOREVER, and now suddenly I'm under 190. Just barely, but I'm there! Keep plugging away. I know it is hard to not see a huge loss, but HEY - when was the last time we saw a huge loss, or ANY loss? Especially knowing that it is gone forever! It's NOT coming back! How many regular dieters can say that? You are doing great! Keep the faith! HUGS Kimberly

Kimberly, I started at 230 on my home scale. I am still above 200 and your surgery date was only two days before mine and you are way under!! I must be doing something wrong. Will you tell me, what do you eat each day and how much are you exercising? Maybe my choices aren't good. Thanks for the encouragement Pam W

Pam, First I will tell you that I had a friend who had surgery in November. When I finally talked to her in March about my surgery, she had only lost 40 pounds. I could hear it in her voice how depressed she was about it. BUT....she came to visit me in the hospital, and looks GREAT now. Some people, I think, just really do lose it slower. As far as my WL is concerned....you have to remember that I was in the hospital basically for 3 weeks and hardly ate anything. When I did come home, nothing stayed down. I've only just last week started keeping things down. I'm doing terrible on my protein, and according to fitday, (I've only used it once because I was so mad at myself) I only ate 300 calories and 14 grams of protein. (and I thought it was a good day) This week I'm concentrating on getting more protein in. I'm hoping milk will be better for me now. Been a while since I tried it. When we FINALLY got shrimp back in the area after Katrina, I got some and ate and ate and ate. Over the course of the day I ate about 20 medium size shrimp, and then went for my first walk around the block. The next day I saw a loss again. I'm convinced that's what I need to do. Increase protein and excersize more. 1 cup of shrimp has almost 50 grams of protein! WOOHOO! I LOVE shrimp! LOL Most days I do good to eat a piece of peanut butter toast, and a half of a ham and cheese sandwich. That's it! I am afraid of malnurishment at this point. I've also discovered pigs in a blanket. I can hold them down well! 1 and sometimes 2 of them. I'm really just eating whatever sticks with me LOL. I know this doesn't help much. I'm not a good example. HUGS Kimberly

Kimberly, I am a lot like you! After my surgery, I had to go back in because I couldn't hold anything down. Then I had that taken care of and just these past few days I have started to keep a little bit of food down. I really try to get protein in but it has been so hard - if I get 15 grams in a day I am lucky! I have been living on soups mostly. Today, I have been nibbling on cheese and smoked fish between meals - just to get my protein up. I am happy it is staying down! Another problem I have is that I have to wait almost an hour to take a drink of anything after a meal - if I take a drink too soon, I will throw up. Hubby just talked to me last night about if I can have shrimp - I said YES!!! He is supposed to get some today. I hope I can eat it! Darla

OH I hope the shrimp works with you. It was SO yummy! I even used butter and garlic and ****tail sauce! Good Luck! I'm glad I'm not the only one out there struggling to get protein! We'll go bald together! HUGS Kimberly

Maybe I need to hop on this shrimp boat Okay, what do you buy, how do you make it? I have only cooked frozen, popcorn shrimp for my boys before and I dont think that is what you gals are talking about. When I was younger I used to get shrimp ****tail when out on business meals and we would have apps before entrees but that is the only time I've eaten it. Oh, except at Kanki (Japanese steak house), now, I have eaten theirs before with my meal. So, please ladies, enlighten me!! Pam

Pam, It is very easy to boil it yourself if you so desire. Just get a box or bottle of "shrimp boil" and follow the directions. You can also buy the larger shrimp, butterfly them and grill them on foil in garlic and butter. YUM YUM. The easiest thing though is to just go to the seafood dept in your grocery store and ask for some shrimp steamed. They usually have different seasoning to choose from and can even make em spicy if you so desire. Have fun with it. I really like boiling them myself. HUGS Kimberly
