Dizziness

Has anyone experienced dizziness? I had surgery on July 27 and was put on a (low dose) blood pressure medicine because my blood pressure stayed elevated while in the hospital. I called Barix on Tuesday, the first day this happpened to me, then it happened again today. The medical assistant called me back after talking to the doctor and they told me to stop taking the blood pressure medicine until I come in for my next appointment which is Sept 20. I was just wondering if anyone else had problems of being dizzy and if what helped to resolve it. Mandie

Hello Mandie, Yes, I have had the same problem. My dietician told me the dizziness is caused by LOW blood pressure, which is USUALLY caused by not getting in all the fluids needed daily. She was probably right, because I have noticed that I get the dizzy spells when I have a busy day and am not able to get those fluids in. She recommended 1/2 diluted Gatorade to help, but when I tried it, I started to get heart palpitations. So, I think I will stick with my decaf/splenda tea, Crystal Light Lemonade and water! Regardless you should call the dietician, they are there to help. And it is better than waiting till the 20th to find out what it could be. Hope I helped. Blessings, Crystal

Thank you Crystal. I don't feel so alone now. I did call Barix today and they told me to stop taking the metropol that they prescribed for me until I see doctor Poplawski on the 20th. They did say that I could still have some of the affects for a few days...I hope not....Thanks again for your response..like I said..It is nice to know I am not alone in this. Mandie

I had high blood pressure since i was 24 and weighed 220lbs. Now i'm 41 and weight 358. Before surgery i was taking four and half pills a day to try to regulate my blood pressure and it was still running slightly high. A week after surgery i was horribly dizzy and recognized the symptoms as low blood pressure. I checked with my doctor and she said it was okay to stop taking my blood pressure meds. I've been closely monitored since and my blood pressure has been low normal. And about three days after i stopped taking them the dizziness disappeared. It was like a miracle cure. good luck.

I am glad you are off your medicine! I hope that is what was going on with me. My BP was fine before surgery, but after surgery they had a hard time making it stay in a normal range so they put me on a low dose (metropol 25 mg), which I was taking up until they told me to stop. You and Crystal both make me feel more at ease that this must have been what was going on. Thank you both so much! Mandie P.S. I haven't had any dizziness in the past few days, some lightheaded moments, but no dizziness!

Same here. Low Blood pressure- cut meds in half since surgery July 28th. Not enough liquids will also cause dizzy spells. Happened to me about 3 times to the point I had to lay down..Feeeling bettter though with reduced meds. My doc says if it continues- check BP and I can reduce the dosage again with weight loss. Good luck...
