Hurricane Katrina
I have been watching the hurricane stories on the news channels. My heart just breaks. My prayers to all and to our WLS friends/family who are there. I made a donation to RED CROSS and they are all first most in my prayers. I challenge all of Obesity.com to step up and assist as well.
Especially as we try to reduce- others need water- meds- food and shelter. IF you cannot donate please pray for recovery as soon as possible. I wish I could do more!!
Hi Pattiann,
I've been up since 4:00am this morning and been watching the news about Katrina. I too think it's a dam shame that that happened to the people. I also keep them in my prayers as well. I also am making a donation. I'm going to a place here by where I live to donate water, canned foods and a few blankets that I'm sure I won't miss.
I wish I could do more for these people. like go ther personally and help hand on but do to my disability I can't.
I wish everyone could donate something, even if it's a dollar or two. Imagine if everyone donated a dollar. That would help out so much. People don't realize ecxactly how much a dollar would help. They think because it's only a dollar it won't make a difference but all together it would.
I care, Cheri
i to am tryin to help.
iliveinhouston where the people are coming. now uknow there not organised when i have put my name on 4 lists red cross, salvation army, harris county and one more to volunteer for the last 4 days and they have not called me back tohelp. andeven peope who just showed up at the astrodome were told to leave. so im goin to drive down there.. but theres now a local church on my side of town thats a shelter. and i called there to volunteer. hopefully theyll call back. since this happened all week i have been getting things together ihave like 5 banana boxes ready.
but it realy is a mess.. think about this.. they tell everyone to leave but yet there sending the relief supplies that way. silly..
also i think there should be a sister city so when one falls apart like this the other one has control. and can tell the people where to go. cause noone knows. whos doing what. sorry for the rambling but im really bothered by this.. so i turned the tv off it today. cause it was really upseting me knoinw im right here and willing.. but no ones using common sense with voluntters.. u know ok any volunteer should go toa central location and then they can say ok we need u here 50 of u here.. blah blah blah... and i know everyone sends there thanks out to all ur wishes and prayers... sue c houston tx. i think aother big city has to step up we cant take everyone.
I am also shocked that in our own country we seem less able to get things together to help than when we go to help other countries. What is going on?!?!
There should have been more plans in place for a large disaster like this. Makes me think Homeland Security has been doing nothing for the last 4 years!!!!!! It has shaken my confidence in this country.
I just can't stand the hungry and thirsty children. It is almost too much to take! Why can't we get it to them quicker?!?!
I would love to help but other than take food down to the local group gathering food and supplies to send (to the area-- which I hadn't thought much of until you said that!) or donating to the red cross and praying - I don't know what I could really do.

I have decided that as of today I can no longer watch the horrible details of the hurricane on TV. I cried for one hour last night when a man took 18 children in a boat to safety and had to leave the mamas behind because the boat would sink. I can hardly stand to think that there are thousands of people stranded hungry and thirsty and sick. I will do what I can but can not tolerate the pain and sorrow on my own psyche. It looks like many of the people will be coming to Utah so that is when I will help. Right now all I can do is pray that folks survive. Sarah
