Biggest Pill You Can Take?
I bought some Tylenol pills last week and my surgeon's nurse said they would be too big for me to take (She's a post-op too so I never did try one). I can't break or crush them because they are extended release. The are gel tabs and they look like a pregnant skittle. I'm trying to find something to replace my anti-inflamatory pills I've been on for 10 years, doc said I had to wait 4-6 weeks before going back on them. I know anti-inflammatories are a no-no and my doc knows that too, but he also says I'm a special case because of back and muscle problems with being in a wheelchair.
What's the biggest pills you can take? Anything over the counter work for you?
Please help!!
I am 5 days behind you and am not released to take any pills at all yet. I go back for my six week exam tomorrow but I do not know if he will release me for any pills yet. Actually, I do not think that I need any pills anymore
I know that I bought an adult liquid tylenol. What about something like that? Would that work for you??
Good luck,
Nancy
I've been taking tiny pills since I was in the hospital. I haven't found the adult tylenol, the childrens' is too sweet and makes me sick. I go back to my surgeon tomorrow, hopefully he will have some suggestions. I am in physical therapy trying to keep my pain under control but it's not helping. I currently have inflamed rotater cuffs in my shoulders which makes it terrible to wheel around all day at work.
Anyway, thanks for the response, I will see if I can find some.
Hi Janice,
I have a problem with one of my knees and I used to be on anti-flamitory meds too but since I can no longer take them my doc gave me shot of cortazone in my knee. Is that a poosibility for you for your shoulders? Ask your doc and see what happens. It really helped me too. Good luck Janice.
Hugs, Cheri
After I ran out of my liquid pain meds after surgery, I still needed a little help for the pain. Anyway, to make a long story short -- Tylenol makes an adult liquid formula that is sold in the same area as the rest of the tylenol. You might even be able to get a generic or store brand of the liquid. Two Tablespoons and the pain was much better. It also helped with headaches.
I am just now starting to try capsules. I was a huge chicken prior to now.
Good luck
Hi Janice,
I have a general fear of pills. I refused to take the first pills they tried to give me in the hospital!! However, they sent me home with HUGE percocets! I was scared to death to take them but I did since I didn't want to be in pain. They worked fine. My doctor also has me on gallbladder meds for preventative care. They are fairly large capsules.
My surgeon cautioned again liquid Tylenol because of the possibility of stomoch irritation. He believes it is too harsh.
I am still scared to really take anything. I have been pretty dehydrated and get severe dehydration headaches and still won't take anything. I will be curious what your doctor says at your next appointment. Keep us posted!!

Hi Janice,
I haven't really had to use much pain medicine since surgery. But with what all is going on here last couple days with the hurricane and stuff I have had a horrible headache.
I had to crush 3 tylenols and believe me they were HORRIBLE. I wish they made an adult liquid or capsule that you could break open but they dont.

Hi Janice;
Check with your doc, but I believe that extended release pills no longer work for us, due to the malabsorbsion issue.
I take a bunch of pills, some of them pretty big. Pre-op, I could take a mouthful at a time, but now I just do one pill at a time. I was told that as long as they were about the size of my fingernail, I'd be fine.
Good luck!
