Hi, I had my proximal rny on 7/29/05. I started having a tremendous amount of burning and stomach pain with lots of belching and the feeling that I need to belch and cannot. Does this sound like too much acid? My doctor put me on protonix, but questioned me 3 times if it was my stomach that hurt or my incision, kinda don't think he believed me that my stomach burned. Anybody else have this problem? How long did it take before the medicine worked? Also, do we always have THIS much gas forever? He went ahead and gave me the go ahead to start on regular foods, but told me I should probably avoid untoasted bread. I guess I'm feeling ok, but I have had a painful recovery with my stomach, I do hope it gets better! I need a little more energy to go back to work next week! If anyone would like to respond to me personaly, please do so.. [email protected] Thanks!

Teresa, Hi my husband and I both had surgery but I don't feel like you but he did. He says it was alot of air and wasn't taking his antiacid (pepcid) the kind that desolves in your mouth. So give that a try and see what happens. Oh don't drink with a straw yet. It puts alot of air in your stomach and it'll feel like it's burning. But so does not taking the pepcid. Good Luck, Cheri

Theresa I had my surgery on the 25th of July and 3 weeks later had the same problem. I was taking 150 mg of Zantac, my surgeon had me switch to Prilosec (I bought the OTC one) the pill is small enough for me to get down, I take it at bedtime. He also told me to start advancing my diet and to be done eating by 6-6:30 time frame. Good Luck Lori

Yes!! I had the same thing and ended up in the emergency room. After all tests, they found nothing wrong with me. It was a relief, actually. And I have never had a problem with heartburn or excess acid- they gave me Aciflex and it sure does do the trick almost immediately. I never knew that excess acid could cause me to feel sooooo horrible! I feel so much better now, and have more energy too. You're right on time honey!

Michelle, Thanks for your reply.....the burning went away with the protonix, but now I am suffering from severe nausea...wondering if it's a side effect from the medicine or just something unrelated....I got to get over this real soon...my son wants me to come to his ballgame tonight and i am supose to go back to work next week...really thought I would feel so much better than this at 5 weeks out. I havn't been able to eat in two days! Feeling so weak that raising my arms above my head is a task! Teresa
