Need help with protein.
I had surgery July 12 and after two weeks had lost 30 lbs. However in the next 2 weeks following that I only lost 1 1/2. My nutritionist told me it was because I wasn't getting enough protein. I know how important my protein is but everything I had tried up to that point had caused me major stomach upset. Believe me we're not just talking about a little queasiness but full blown diarrhea.
My nutritionist has switched me over to Carnation Sugar Free Instant breakfast which goes down alright but it doesn't have but 14 grams of protein and has a whopping 150 calories when mixed w/ skim milk. Has anyone else had this problem and if so what protein supplements have you found that digest ok. I've tried unjury, Precision Engineer and Matrix and just could not tolerate them. Believe me it wasn't just a taste thing because if that was the case I would still be taking them. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I drink about 46 grams of a nectar protein powder. I use the fuzzy navel flavor and mix it with orange CL. I LOVE this combination. Did you try going to bariatriceating.com? They have a great sample pack that I ordered and then found what I liked best.
Good luck, protein is so very important.
I had surgery on 7/18, about 6 days after you and when I got on the scale today I am down 39 pounds (and was jumping for joy )

I despise Isopure which other people rave over and I didn't care too much for Unjury, the smell of unjury in drinks always got to me, it doesn't mix real well and it tastes funny too. If you have a Costco nearby, go buy a jug of their Alpine Vanilla protein powder, it's real yummy, mixes well and has no smell. I add it to orange juice and ice and blend and it taste just like a creamcicle. If you don't like it you can take it back, costco is really good about that. I asked them about returning before I bought it.
It's really cheap compared to unjury too. It's $19.99 for about 4 times as much as when you buy unjury at $15.
I also add it to carb countdown milk and add some SF Torani espresso syrup and decaf instant coffee, tastes just like my espressos used to.
Do you like chili? I have been eating a lot of chili, a lot of protein. Wendy's is even low in fat and yummy.
Good luck.
What about protein bars? They pack huge amounts of protein too. Could you use those instead?
You have to read read and read again the labels. You don't want lots of sugar alcohols...and sometimes they kind of "hide" that info on the label.
Also I have that unflavored Any Whey that I can mix in just about anything. Maybe it would go down better if it's mixed with some other food.
Good luck!

i do the carnation instant breakfast with skim milk then i add 1/2 scoop 10gr potein of body fortress premium whey vanilla.. i beleive that give me 22 grams.thats a big start. suppose to use it as a snack in between the 3 meals. but ha .. 3 meals i dont ever sit downto eat. i need to get to it.. i also eat 4 of thoughs calcium things there good 2. i try to eat some chicken ihave got to buckle down too.. good luck
I just ordered the sampler pack of protein powders from bariatriceating.com because I too have a problem withe the protein powders. RIght now im sipping on the Nectar Fuzzy navel that I mixed with orange crystal light. ITs not so bad, compared to what ive been trying to gag down lately.
OH, if you get Skim Plus milk, it has more protein...i think its 11g of protein per 8 oz
I am almost 8 weeks out and cannot hardly tolerate any of the protein shakes any longer. YACK....
I bought some samples of this (Profect) that will be delievered today. They are only 2.7 ounces each in various fruit flavor concoctions with 25 grams each. I figure even if they are horrible, easier to gag down 2.7 ounces than 8 ounces.

Hi,
I use Designer Whey protein, it comes in different flavors, chocolate, chocolate caramel, strawberry, vanilla etc. You can get it at GNC stores or most health food stores. You can mix it with mil**** cubes and a teaspoon of peanut butter, it makes a great shake. I also use a liquid protein called Pro-Stat 64 and a powder called Protein for life. You can order them at www.pro-stat.info , click on bariatric surgery and you'll find them. The liquid comes in cherry, orange, and butter pecan. The cherry is good mixed with cinnamon tea or you can make sugar free jello with it or mix it with Crystal light. The powder ( cinnamon toast is my favorite ) is good mixed with milk, vanilla dannon light and fit yogurt or mixed with oatmeal. Hope this helps. Jo
