hey everyone, i feel like sharing a little about my day today. i went in for my 5 week post visit and i finally lost a bit after stalling for like 2 weeks. i started at 280, now down to 249, wooohoooo. 31 lbs in 5 weeks, i should be jumping for joy huh. i'm happy but gosh can't seem to ever be enough sometimes. anyways, my surgeon kinda p*ssed me off today. i asked him about these mood swings i've been having since surgery, and he thought he was funny and tells me he has nothing to do with it because he operated on my stomach not my braine. i was kinda ticked off at him but whatever. i'm gona have to see my pcp or gyno to see if i'm having a chemical inbalance because my emotions and stuff are really off. anyways, so i'm finally up another stage in my diet. im allowed peanut butter and crackers and cheese and beans, yummy!!! i go back in 2 weeks for my next stage, yay. it's hard eating the same thing over and over and over again. has anyone ever had like a food tasting meeting with their support groups? see i'm not into cooking new things and i would like to venture off and learn new healthy things to eat so i was wondering if i should ask my dietician if she can ask any of the other patiens if that's something they would be interested in and maybe doing that. in my eyes, i think it would be a great help to all these people who oviously didn't always eat correctly before surgery and need to learn new meal options. ok sorry for going on and on, take care all. maria
I think the "cooking lessons" would be a great idea. I've tossed it around in my own head too. My family is SO plain and boring - steak and potatos kinda guys - so I've cooked the exact same things for the last 13 years. I'm so ready to make them venture off their "diet" and try some of my good stuff. INFACT - I'm writing this in another post too, but - I had the BEST peanut butter/chocolate pie last night. I made Dame Tooters PB Pie and it's to die for! LOL
My biggest thing is cooking fish - I know I need to learn how, but I honestly have NO clue. I have Oprahs old cookbook - I bet there is some good recipes in there. Maybe it will help.
Glad to see you've started losing again - you're doing GREAT!!!
HUGS
Kimberly

hey kimberly, i so know what you mean about cooking the same thing for years. see my family is cuban so our typical meal always includes rice and beans. then there is fried chicken or fried steak pork chops and the fried plantains of course. that's really all my mom cooked in a normal day. so all i know to eat is fried stuff and rice and beans. i can't ever not eat rice because it's like one of my favorites but i wanna just have it maybe a few times a month, not every night, lol. i look for recepits online and it's hard to cook the stuff because i'm such a picky eater. and so then things sound funny and i just turn at the tought without even trying it out. that's one thing i hate about my mom, she didn't make it a strong point for me to learn differnt foods. with my daughter. i make her try EVERYTHING. she'll pretty much eat anything right now and she's not even 2 yet. i hope she'll always be open to it all. maria

hey nancy, what recepit did you want? i really don't got any but in bariatriceating.com are a bunch.
Congrats... I am running out of recipes to try.. I come from an Italian household- everything PASTA. GOOD grief even when I was little we had pastina- tiny macaroni with eggs cooked in and cheese.
I am un learning the pasta and bread deal here. Today I had chicken souvalki.. YUM... I have enough left for meals all week. I had chicken, feta cheese, tomatoe, mediteranean lettuce and greens, onion, olives etc... even a bite of pita toasted at the end. Was very good.
I am not big on turkey.. Have had my fill of soft moist chicken, had a little steak the other night( did okay). Hamburg ground was okay in chilli.
I cannot remember it ever being so hard to find something to make a meal- with.

i've had a bit of pasta but am trying to un learn it too along with rice, lol. i've been having mash potatoes with thin steak in it just to keep it moist and it goes down really good. i put turkey in it alot too. i eat a lot of chili, and am getting sick of chicken too. gona try putting some cheese on it or something, lol. i wish i can afford a cook to plan my meals, lol. maria
I don't know if you like sloppy joe sauce but Manwich sloppy joe is low in sugar (4 gms a serving) and seems to digest well (at least w/ me). I'm a little over 6 weeks out and my Dr.'s eating guidelines don't allow for any types of crackers, bread, etc. so I'm stuck mainly eating meat, cheese, and protein supplements. I found the sloppy joe to be a good change from just plain meat. Hope this helps.
Hi! I understand the hormone thing. Aparently after the surgery you become more fertile which has to mean more hormones. I am 52 and have been through the "change" twice -- once due to chemo and once because it was time. Now the hair on my legs is growing like it did when I was a teen. It does seem to settle out.
There's a great book by Susan Maria Leach - Before and After. She is a great cook and has lots of recipes and they all have the nutritional counts. She has menus for holiday meals. You just have to make sure you can eat what's in the recipe. I made the cannoli pudding without the pistachios and chocolate and dusted it with cocoa powder. My family even enjoyed it and questioned whether or not it was okay for me because it was so good!
good luck,
Candy
